It keeps getting better. We stayed again last January and we were pleasantly surprised with the changes. Most importantly: the customers talked they listened! The glass windows are shielded to block the street noise, the internet service was changed to the best, rooms are freshly painted along with other changes and decorations. When you list the pros and cons, the... More

Lovely clean room, well maintained. Bed was very comfortable and indeed tiny bathroom, but it was very clean and can be properly used for its purpose. Warm water, clean towels. If you come for your rest, than do not go to a city that lives, go to the country or stay in the business area. The surrounding area is noisy,... More

If you value a good night's sleep, Hostal Adriano is not for you. It is very centrally located, which is why we booked it, but it is on what appears to be one of the noisiest streets in Madrid. A word of warning if you do decide to stay here: bring ear plugs. The rooms are basic and the bathrooms... More

Very old rooms and a tiny bathroom !! I mean I could not move myself inside!! The wardrobe also small and not practical. There was no garbage can only in the bathroom so we used a plastic bag from the market...the hilarious was that the maid took the garbage but not the bag!! We asked for a balcony with view... More

We stay in Hostal Adriano in Dec 2014 and found it to be very comfortable and a good location just off Calle Atocha a few blocks east of Plaza Mayor in the downtown area of Madrid. The staff were helpful and spoke English well, and made us feel at home. There are many cafes and restaurants in the area for... More

We traveled here during September for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. I would say the best attribute is the location, with restaurants and bars all over, and walking distance to the Puerto del Sol metro station. Our room had a window view to the street below and could get a bit noisy during the early hours of the... More

We spent our first 3 nights in Spain at the Hostal Adrian. The room is small but adequate. The folks at the desk were extremely helpful and friendly. The hostal is in the Sol area with an active nightlife and I worried the noise would keep me awake, but it wasn't a problem. There were plenty of restaurants and stores... More

This is a centrally located "Hostal" several floors up but with an elevator for luggage hauling (or if you do not want to use the stairs). I found it to be reasonably priced, so do not expect it to be an expensive hotel chain. It is every thing that it says that it is and more as far as I... More

My friend and I booked this hostal in desperation, as the hotel we had booked cancelled. How glad were we!! We had a double room each for the same price as one double at the hotel. The rooms were perfectly adequate with a full sized fridge and a safe free of charge. It was spotlessly clean and anything you didn't... More

Bathroom is small and room is basic but adequate with enough room for 2 and a safe, while the service outside is pretty good. The entrance is pretty unassuming and grotty being from one of Madrid's wilder streets, with the noise being slightly over the top at night. However once you realise how central this hotel is to the Retiro... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
