I had booked and prepaid for this hotel for one night and unfortunately due to a delayed flight arrived about 14 hours later than I should have (around midnight), so didn't really get much of a chance to do anything other than sleep here overnight. The lady who owns the hotel was very nice and accommodating. The location has lots... More

We booked this hostel at short notice when visiting madrid for a football match. Firstly, dont be put off by the appearance from the street. The door to the hostel is not easy to find as it looks like a regular doorway to a private house, but dont be put off!! Once inside we were greeted by the lady who... More

Thank you, the team of Hostal San Antonio. First of all, before check in , the team of hostel was so kind in answering innumerable amount of my questions. Second, when I came to them, everything was ready, the staff was smiley and friendly. Third, the room itself was great, especially for a hostel. Big single room, with a big... More

Overlook the graffiti entry on ground floor because this budget hotel run by a pleasant helpful family it is basic but functional and very clean. Good value. Well located in interesting and reasonably quiet street.

Excellent value for money: in the very heart of Madrid, close to main attractions (Prado Museum, Plaza Cibeles, Calle Mayor, Gran Via, Plaza Mayor, Plaza del Sol, Puerta de Atocha, Royal Botanical Gardens, The Royal Palace) within short walking distance. E.g.: round the corner on Cervantes Street you have the house where Cervantes lived and died and also the house... More

It is in the "Bario des las Letras" of Madrid, where once famous Spanish poets and writers (incl. Cervantes) lived. Everything is very close to "San Antonio", and immediate neighborhood is full with shops, cafes and restaurants. Rooms are clean and adequate, WiFi is excellent. I suppose that it matters where your window is oriented, regarding the street noise. Mine... More

Great service, extremely clean. I had a private bathroom with a really good shower (sometimes you compromise on these things when you are looking for economic options, but this was not the case in this hostal). A/C is a MUST in Madrid in the summer months. Better choice than similarly priced hostals in calle Atocha, because in calle León you... More

Found this place to stay on our first ever visit to Madrid by searching on Tripadvisor and clicking the "best value" tab. It is on a charming street just barely wide enough for our taxi. I reserved this for two family members and it was very nice. Good location, comfortable bed, and pretty quiet. Enjoyed by all. I visited the room and found it to clean, reasonable size, with a very nice private bathroom.

Excellent location in the very centre of the city. 10 minute walk to major museums and attractions. Our room was absolutely tiny, so we wanted to spend as little time as possible indoors. Walls were very thin so we could clearly hear our neighbours. But that could be the problem only with room no 1 which is next to consierge... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
