Of course you cannot expect much from a 3 star hotel. But if you are looking for one, of course low prices are on your top priorities. If that is the case, this hotel is a very good choice. Location is the best possible, in gran via, very close to the metro (callao) and within walking distance from downtown (puerta... More

Although hotel's location was very good, near metro and central street Gran Via, room wasn't clean and aired, also there was smell on corridors. But staff was good and also there wasn't a bell-boy also. You must carry your luggage your own. I dint have breakfast that's why can't say any think about breakfast.

the person at reservation department Amelie is very, very rude! She didn't even listen to you, when you are trying to explain your problem! She is shutting on clients and then just hang up the phone. I am chocked! I have never encountered such terrible attitude behavior and just plane rudeness towards the customer! Shame on you Rex Hotel !

The room had no view, the plumbing is very loud, the walls are thin (so you hear all your neighbours conversation), but it's cheap and the location is great. The staff seem a little grumpy. That all said its centrally located in a capital city, yet cheap. I have a feeling there maybe better hotels in Madrid for a little... More

To be fair this hotel has a great location, practically on the doorstep of two metro stations and close to all the main shops. That being said there are a few issues. First, the walls are paper thin, so if you neighbour has a shower or uses a tap you'll hear it. Same goes for people talking in the corridor.... More

functional - but incredibly central and convenient for restaurants, shopping and galleries. Staff appear to have been to the Basil Fawlty school of charm. Breakfast just about acceptable. Rooms are quite noisey - one can hear what goes on above and below. On the plus side place is very clean and tidy. All fixtures and fittings work. Did I say... More

Nice place in the basic spanish style. Not modern or particularly fashionable by any means, but a good, clean, honest hotel in a great location. Very central on the gran via. 5 minutes to Sol. Great for nightlife, culture, dining. Excellent value at 50euro a night including a decent layout for breakfast. Wifi was included too. I slept well but... More

I siento a weekend in the Rex Hotel And It way very comfortable and convenient. Location is great in the heart of gran via and well connected to the metro (Plaza Callao is nearby). I would definetly recommend it!

Rude stuff with bad behavior. Very overestimated. Very high prices for what they offer. Allthough i travel very often to Madrid I wouldn't visit that hotel again and i wouldn't recommend it to other people.

We were here for four days in August 2014 and with all the hotels in Madrid why pick this one. 2 star advertise as 3, I think the reason for 3 is the position this the centre of historic Madrid. Hotel is cheap for a reason and you pay for everything. Madrid is a great city don't let this hotel... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
