Great central location on Grand Via street which is ideal for walking around to all the sight-seeing locations and close to the Metro stations. The staff are really helpful too. Otherwise quite a basic hotel.

It is located in Grand via and just 5 minutes away from metro station thats why only location I liked. On corridors there were bad smelling. Corridors were like labyrinths :) And room was very small and old furnished. Also bath were small and unclean.

A hotel is for sleeping in. Do not stay here if you want some sleep. We have a really noisy room with an elevator making noise like thunder all night long. Hotel staff do not care. Others in our group have the same problem.

Trendy hotel in the heart of Madrid's Gran Via. Friendly and helpful staff. Metro is near. Lots of restaurants and cafes near by. Quiet rooms and clean. Good Wifi. However no available hotel parking but public parking around the corner.

I stayed there for a week while traveling with my grandson. He is ten and loves to eat! Breakfast hours were long and we could go down after ten and get a good breakfast. The staff at Reception was very helpful as we needed some direction during our stay. I wish they had refrigerators in the rooms. I would stay... More

Terrible place. Shabby run down hotel covered in luminous green paint to cover damp patches on walls. Rooms were again shabby and run down. Woken at 0730 to hear cleaners banging a hoover around , after being woken in the night by water pouring through our bathroom ceiling! No plugs in bath or sink, had to get them from reception.... Stayed for 3 nights with friends for city break. Very impressed with the location as close to everything we wanted to see and more. Good breakfast and helpful staff both here and at reception. Would recommend to anyone looking for a city centre hotel at an affordable rate.

The Hotel Rex has an excellent location on Gran Via. The staff was great, good breakfast buffet, free WiFi, decent size room for Europe that was clean!!! The elevator was a little slow, and the reception is below the street. Because you can not access your room except from the reception, you sometimes have to wait for an elevator. The... More

I like the service, people very helpful. I forgot my toothbrush and toothpaste and they gave me one. I was never bothered, the beds were comfortable. I was on business so they gave a quiet room with no view (view to Gran Via means noise, for sure) but who cares about view. Wifi was great too, tv with amazing quality... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
