I stayed at the Tryp Rex in July and quite liked the hotel. The staff were not terribly helpful but I enjoyed my stay there anyway. While I was in Spain, I only used my credit card at this hotel and it was cloned. VISA was onto it and they have phoned me and changed my card number and let... more

The location is fantastic. Beside that, be prepare for basic (or no) service, old and badly refurnished room, 14' CRT TV, very old fashioned bathroom. The price was only about 45€ for a comfortable bed in a quiet room, so why complaint? more

We had a great stay at the Tryp Rex on Gran Via. In fact, I am surprised by some of the negative reviews about this hotel - and really do wonder what exactly these people expect from a hotel that is such a good price in a prime location in a fairly pricey European city!! If you want perfection, I'm... more

Hotel is located slap bang on gran via Closest metro stations are Callao (lines 3 and 5) Santo Domingo (line 2) and Plaza de Espana on lines 10 and 3. The latter station is probably easiest to use if you are coming from the airport as you only have to change once from line 8 at Nuevos Ministerios on to... more

We booked this hotel for a very cheap rate basically because of the good location. After reading the reviews before I stayed here I thought my stay in Madrid would be a night mare, but it was anything but that. The room was very spacious and very clean. There was a very small smell initially when I walked in but... more

The location is very central, which means NOISY. Despite the double-glazed windows, the street noise kept me awake all night for three nights. Sirens, loud drunken singing and shouting, etc. And my room was on the side street, not on Gran Via. And in early May it was already pretty hot (28 degC) but they said the air conditioning wouldn't... more

Ok so here it is. Location great, Staff friendly, especially the older bald man. The room is a fricken nightmare. You like to smell old and dirt stay here. The carpets have not been changed since the 1920s they look like my oil mat in my garage if I had one. The t.v. when you get home after a long... more

Having read some of the reviews here, we had very low expectations of this place. We got a great deal on rates (blind auction) and so we were wary (based on reviews). However we were delighted with the result! The hotel does indeed have a lobby at basement level but the staff were fine and the room was spacious, clean... more

We weren't expecting much from this hotel after reading all the other reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. This one is on Gran Via 43, say that because there are three of them in the same road. Reception staff were very good apart from one guy I would like to meet again! More on that later.Check in guy was very good... more

Stayed at Tryp Rex recently. Room was facing the Gran Viva, but with windows closed traffic noise wasn't too bad, tested the A/C and it didn't seem to work (perhaps as it was switched off for the winter) however if it didn't work in the summer could be a serious problem. Walls certainly could use a new paint job, and... more
