This Hotel is showing its age, but is good value for Madrid. The first room we were offered was so small we could not place our luggage & move around the bed, but fortunately we were re-located to a much better room for a 4 night stay. Breakfasts were very good - fresh fruit, bread, cooked eggs, meat etc You... More

Reception staff were friendly. The front of the reception desk and the keycard holder says 'welcome' in many languages, but unfortunately the room is not very welcoming, eg just 4 hangars, no bath plug, no bath mat, poor lighting making reading difficult, no minibar, generally tired stale and and dated room decor. The type of hotel which you soon find... More

Stayed 1 night as on way elsewhere but great value and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good. Location brilliant. We would of preferred a room with a balcony as the views over the gran via day or night would if been excellent. Our room was cheap and great value to what we paid about £40 for 2 people B&B

The hotel is in need for some renovation but is still in pretty good shape. Once you get past the first impression you realise that the rooms are actually quite clean and the bathroom works as should. The location is perfect. Walking distance to virtually anywhere in the centre/old city and right on Gran Via and next to plaza Callao.... More

The location was very central to lots of points of interest like Plaza de Espana, the Opera House and the Royal Plaza. The staff was very friendly and helpful with providing directions. The breakfast served daily was sufficient and the rooms were clean.

I stayed here in September 2015. The location. was great for the city centre & right next to the Metro for the airport. Most of the staff werew friendly & I was able to leave my case after checking out as my flight wasn't till late. That's the good bits. The room was dark & dingy. There was 1 tiny... More

The hotel has a fantastic location but the windows are not so good isolated so we heard a lot of traffic. The first room was smelly and we had issues with the heating. The very friendly staff immediately gave us another and slightly bigger room. There were a few things here and there to be done in the room but... More

Was looking for a budget hotel in Madrid for the weekend and Hotel Rex seemed to fit the bill. Pictures on line looked good for a 3 star hotel and location is good. However I stayed in 719 and my friend stayed in 219. They were both clean and tidy broom cupboards which made me think that the pictures on... More

Great location, easy to find next to Callao metro. All the sights within short walking distance. Hotel felt safe with friendly and helpful reception staff. Room although didn't have a view was nice and quiet. Asked on arrival if we wanted a quiet room so that was a nice touch (room 810). Downside was no view. Wifi was good and... More

Hotel;s location is really the best, because you are close at every attraction, You also have an easy access into the metro stations. The hotel entrance does not seem friendly, but it is just the outside apparence. You can easily get to the reception (being in the ground floor) by using the lift at the 1st floor, The staff is... Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
