3 nights in this hotel. the room was very good and all what you need in the bathroom (with bath). Breakfast is very good and located at the first floor, with view on the street. Very noisy on saterday evening when all people is celebrating the weekend. They charged us twice the booking, but it was fixed direct.

Spent 2 nights in this hotel in October. Excellent location in the center, so everything can be reached on foot. Nice breakfast, great variety, clean rooms but old and poor in supplies. But it's a good choice for solo travelers, families or couples.

I stayed in the Rex hotel in March this year after finding a deal on a competing website. THe reception is in the basement, with no light. The rooms are small and shabby, the decoration hasn't been re-made for years. When you are walking down the corridors it feels like you are walking in what I'ld imagine a brothel to... More

Great central location on Grand Via street which is ideal for walking around to all the sight-seeing locations and close to the Metro stations. The staff are really helpful too. Otherwise quite a basic hotel.

It is located in Grand via and just 5 minutes away from metro station thats why only location I liked. On corridors there were bad smelling. Corridors were like labyrinths :) And room was very small and old furnished. Also bath were small and unclean.

A hotel is for sleeping in. Do not stay here if you want some sleep. We have a really noisy room with an elevator making noise like thunder all night long. Hotel staff do not care. Others in our group have the same problem.

Trendy hotel in the heart of Madrid's Gran Via. Friendly and helpful staff. Metro is near. Lots of restaurants and cafes near by. Quiet rooms and clean. Good Wifi. However no available hotel parking but public parking around the corner.

I stayed there for a week while traveling with my grandson. He is ten and loves to eat! Breakfast hours were long and we could go down after ten and get a good breakfast. The staff at Reception was very helpful as we needed some direction during our stay. I wish they had refrigerators in the rooms. I would stay... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
