I have to say that my first impressions of this hotel were ambiguous, and first impressions count for a lot. The hotel has a period feel to it ie it needs some work on it. The staff are friendly and efficient and speak good English. When you eventually manage to negotiate reception, you have to deal with the lift system.... More

We have stayed for 3 nights in Madrid and found the Rex to be a clean friendly comfortable hotel. It is well located to lots of interesting tourist areas.Highly recommended. .one improvement they could make is tea and coffee and a fridge in the rooms.

Hotel Rex lies in the Gran Via Center of Madrid. I went their from the airport by Metro , I changed Metro twice till Callao (not Gran Via, Callao have electric stairs up, it was easy). Ideally located for easy walking to the main tourist attractions and shopping center of Madrid, the famous Gran Via is the Cinema street with... More

On the Gran Via this is ideally located for easy walking to the main tourist areas. The reception is below street level which can be awkward but there is a lift. We had a very friendly intern to check us in but the older gentleman on reception was very gruff and unhelpful. The rooms are small and very dated &... More

Stayed here from the 6th to the 8th of July. Hotel was clean, good location and minimal street noise although we were on the 4th floor. Breakfast was nice and plentiful with a good selection. Would have highly recommended this hotel except for one major disappointment. When our room was cleaned on the second day, I returned to find a... More

A good value for money hotel in the main shopping centre of Madrid, the famous Gran Via, very near to Piazza Callou with a major cinema of Film Premiere fame just nearby, and Piazza di Spagna a stroll down the Gran Via. Very central, Plaza del Sol reached through Plaza Callou. Efficient staff. The reception desk location has a little... More

Pay for what you get. Great location, friendly staff, hotel needs a make over. Very very simple rooms. Need more lifts. One night stay, early morning flight so didn't experience the restaurant. Staff were very helpful in organizing a taxi to the airport.

Great location, fantastic staff and great value. I will be back! On Gran Via and close to Puerta del Sol, with air conditioning that worked incredibly well on a very hot weekend! I shall be making this my hotel of choice in a city I visit at least 4 times per year!

Nice little hotel just over the Gran Via with a perfect walking distance of major attraction like the Royal Palace and the Prado museum. Staff is really friendly and helpful, they even printed our airplane boarding passes for us. We stayed twice, the first time we got a small room but the second time it was a really big beautiful... We stayed for two nights in Hotel Rex . We arrived at 12 pm thinking our room would nt be ready but they let us check in which was great as we had a really early flight . The room was very dark (room 210) and was overlooking a yard which made it dark but was clean . The hotel... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
