After seeing great reviews I booked this hostel thinking it would be a really great standard. The original hostel and the cheaper rooms were horrible - really dated, no windows in some of them, single rooms so small you could hardly get in them. The superior rooms were nice but really cheaply done - furniture falling apart (Ikea type) and... more

We stayed here on a 3 day break - My partner was worried as he has only ever stayed in hotels- We were very happy with the astoria. It is a lovely place with lovely staff. The location is great too. Our room was pretty quiet. We have stayed in worse hotels!! The veggie restaurant underneath was delightful more

Great place! Good location (near Puerta del Sol and not far from Plaza Mayor), nice rooms, awesome bathroom, clean, english language available on tv, free wifi in the rooms and cheap. We couldn't fault this place! more

Adequate, immaculately clean, centrally located old school hostal (a short walk to the very swanky Madrid Westin). Some rooms (like mine) can be tiny. Ours was en suite but the shower was the smallest I have ever attempted to use. Extraordinarily helpful staff (not phony and fake friendly, but helpful and professional). If you are on a budget and don't... more

It was the second time I stayed in this hostel. A year before I stayed there with my family on the last floor and the room was basic, but this time i went there with my boyfriend and we got the room on the 4th floor that was recently renovated. The room had the bigger terrace than a room itself... more

This was my first time staying at a "hostal" and the experience was great!, helpful employees, easy to get location using either taxi or the metro, right in downtown Madrid. Taxi fare from the Barajas Airport was EUR32, it could have been only EUR3 using the metro, but I didn't know, the cab driver found the hotel easily. The place:... more

I booked 6 nights in this hotel (hostal) based mostly on TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed. I made the booking through booking.com and paid 53 euro per night....not bad! The room, though, was VERY small probably because of the great rate we got. But, as with lots of travel, the room was mostly only needed for sleeping. VERY clean... more

Although its strategic location near the Prado and generally high rating may seem appealing at first, I would advise everyone to exercise extreme caution when considering staying here. Our experience in Madrid was marred by a frightening experience in an elevator and the subsequent apathy of the receptionists. On the last day of our trip, my family and I found... more

We stayed at this hostal for 2 nights in Dec 07, it was minutes' away from Puerta del Sol and Chueca. The hostal is on the 4th and 5th floor, but you must request a room on 4th which is brand new, rathen than 5th, where the rooms are pretty old. The one we were original assigned before we asked... more

We had a great time in Madrid and part of it was due to our pleasant stay at Astoria: *very clean *big sized and well furnished room *24 h reception * free internet access ( wi- fi also available) and a GREAT location. 5 mins to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The area felt safe, at night, as well.... more
