Great central location, our room was beautifully furnished and we would highly recommend the Central Palace to anyone going to Madrid. Lovely reception on arrival and great views of the Royal Palace and gardens from our room. A real hidden gem

Hostal Central Palace was in a great location with plenty of nice places to grab breakfast nearby before taking a stroll around Madrid. We were very pleasantly surprised to find how spacious our room was when we arrived, and to see that it included a kitchen area with fridge, sink and microwave. We booked a room with no view of... We loved this place. The room was huge with kitchen facilities . The bathroom was modern and the best shower we have had in all of Spain. The reception girls were delightful and extremely helpful. We were even able to have a shower after we had checked out as we were flying home that night .one small suggestion signage for... More

Lovely stay at central palace and Christina was a joy. We arrived quite late at night and were greeted with a smiling face with plenty of information. We were celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary and ten minutes after arriving Christina knocked on our door with a bottle of bubbly to say congratulations! Aside from that, great location and fab view... More

Stayed for two nights, great location across from the Royal Palace. Close to the subway, although a little challenging to get to if driving. Rooms are okay, modern and well equipped, although ours was internally facing and got quite stuffy. Reception staff member was fantastic, providing us great information for touring Madrid. Poor wifi in room unfortunately. No laundry facilities... More

We stayed here for three nights and could not have been happier. We did stay in a room with a balcony overlooking the palace (which was definitely worth the extra expense). The view was wonderful. The location was prefect for walking and reaching the Metro at the Opera station. Very easy. The room was very clean and included a small... More

We had a large room with a view of the palace, small balcony and comfy bed. Bathroom was updated with a good shower. Reception area is one floor up from ground floor and there is no food service, but help from receptionist is super, and breakfast can be taken at cafe on ground floor, which is a classic. We loved... The standout attribute of this hotel is the lovely Christina, who runs everything. She was very lovely and helpful to us throughout our stay, and even spoke English with us, which was lucky as I had hardly managed to learn enough Spanish to be travelling in Spain. The hotel itself seems to have been redecorated in recent times, and is... More

Discretely located in a 200 year old building facing the royal palace, this updated charmer has it all - location in the heart of the old city, super friendly and helpful staff, spacious and comfortable rooms. And the very fair rates complete the package! Each night we returned was like coming home, with stories of our adventures and mishaps shared... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
