This is a real gem, and brings a whole new meaning to the concept of a 'hostal'! As so as you step through the door you know you have found somewhere special: and if you pick a room with a panoramic view you will not be disappointed. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly and helpful English speaking lady (sadly... More

This is a great little find in central Madrid. We went to Madrid for the tennis and this place was perfect as the metro station one minutes walk from the front door (Callao) runs direct to the ground. Would recommend for anyone going to the Madrid open. From touring Madrid in general it is excellent. Everything is only a short... More

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Central Palace and would highly recommend it. Our room had a wonderful view of the palace and was spotlessly clean. Christina, the hotel receptionist couldn't be more helpful....she made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of tips for places to visit and eat. The location is excellent,... More

This is a wonderful gem of a hotel. Our room with a view took our breath away. Situated opposite the palace the location is perfect. We had breakfast everyday with the sound of opera singers practicing in the opera house nearby - just wonderful! The staff were so warm and welcoming (thanks Christina!) and even gave us a present on... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in April 2015, and it was a fantastic central location for a quick trip to Madrid! Christina at the front desk was very helpful the entire time, and I can't tell you how amazing the view of the palace was across the plaza right from our balcony. We were able to walk to all... Although titled a hostel, this was a fantastic accommodation. Overlooking royal palace, beautiful rooms, with safe box, tea coffee facilities, TV, air conditioning and toiletries. We could not have asked for more. It's about 3 mins walk from Opera train station and handy for Plaza Mayor, La Latina, Gran Via. There is no sign outside, so look for cafe oriente... More

An excellent location right in the centre of Madrid - close to many tourist and shopping locations. We travelled by train from the airport to Principe Pio station and a 10 minute walk got us to Central Palace. A very warm welcome by Christina in reception got our stay off the a great start. An early morning walk in the... More

This beautiful hostel (don't let the description of hostel put you off, more like a boutique hotel rather than a hostel!) is perfect, central and in such a pretty location in Madrid. We had an interior room, which was really large, comfortable, clean and decorated so tastefully. With a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a safe. The free... More

Marina was very friendly and helpful. the hotel location is amazing and close to Opera metro station. Away from the crowd with amazing garden and palace view. out at the same building, there is a small bakery with daily fresh tasty bread.

We got back home yesterday after staying 5 nights at Centaral Palace Hostal. We had a wonderful stay there and would thorougly recommend this lovely little hostel. The girls, Chiristina and Marina are extremely friendly and helpful and the service was wonderful. One day there was a small bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us on our return and two... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
