Centrally located. Old building with lots of charm. Safe and clean. Certainly not a cookie cutter property. Every room is different. Furnishings are a cross between old and Ikea-ish. Comfortable. Just a couple of blocks from both Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor. Beautiful old wood work and elevator. Reasonable prices. Americans - pack a few washcloths and hand towels... More

Hostal Madrid is very cozy and located in a great area very close to Plaza Del Sol. My room was for a solo traveler and was pretty small but had everything I needed. Despite of the central location it was very quiet. The staff was helpful and accommodating.

I found the wifi to be terrible. You are paying for the location because you are literally right in Sol. However I stayed here for over a month (I'm a student) and I found the wifi to be terrible. There is only 1 router per floor so the range is poor and everyone on the floor is using the same... More

This hostel has a very good location and this is a main point why I chose it. Otherwise - not too friendly, not to concerned, not too helpful besides very restricted - no friends...coming before 10 pm otherwise you need to ring and wait for somebody to open the door....no way!

I stayed in this nice hotel last year with my sister for 3 nights. People at the reception were nice and they gave us internet passwords and checkin even if we arrived very late at night. The room was super nice with stone style, comfortable and clean. Super central and not too noisy

Location! Location! Location! This little find is in the middle of the action and super cheap. I got a small basic room which was perfect. Front desk was helpful and friendly and had great recommendations for eateries. Would definitely stay here again.

An excellent hotel in a superb location. Upon arrival we were upgraded to an apartment which was extremely clean and contained everything we needed. The staff are very friendly and helpful and you could not pick a better place to explore madrid.

Great and generous place, kind and helpful staff and an amazing location. Somehow in thimble of everything yet still quiet and comfy for sleep. The place we stay had such an amazing view and was quick access to the heart of Madrid.

IF you know the difference between a 'hostal' and a 'hotel' and IF you book a double room (highly recommended) then you will be pleased by this place. Right in the city center of Madrid, with a very kind and helpful staff, and better than many of the competitors nearby. Good if you are looking for a place to sleep... More

I liked the cleanliness and the staffs inclination to help. The apartment was given to us instead of the hotel room. It was much bigger but the apartment was old and creaking every where. The beds were not comfortable and the bathroom too small. Hot water only for five minutes- when complained they said we used up 80 liters of... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
