we stayed at the Hostal at the end of April and overall had a great time. It is cheap, so don't expect anything else. the rooms are basic and the bathrooms are very small. However, it was all very clean. The hostal is in an AMAZING location, we found that we didn't need to use any trams, trains or buses... More

The accommodation was cheap and if that is the criterion this hostel can be a choice. The room they gave us was facing the Gran Via. The views are good but the noise of traffic is all night. They had inner rooms but smaller. As our room was not great I am in doubt if the inner rooms will be... More

the best asset of the hotel is it's location ... very near a metro station and is walking distance to practicallly everything ... the room we got was of good size BUT the toilet smelt disgusting (drainage?) ... when we mentioned this at the reception, they came ready with an air freshener and some alcohol based liquid which they used... Not even the superb location (Gran via across from Plaza del Callao) can help this hostal for a better rating. The traffic noise coming from the avenue five stories below is unbearable. Staff is helpfull, rooms are clean. Important Tip: ask for a room far from the Gran Via Avenue wing.

I spent one night at the Hostal Continental when my travel plans changed and I had to arrive in Madrid a day earlier than expected. Located on Gran Via, across from Plaza de Callao, the Continental is right in the middle of the city. The room is very basic, and looked much like old college dorm rooms: slightly worn linoleum... Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
