Hostal Principado is a very simple hostal extremely well located, close to Sol, Gran Via and Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza. This is a two star and very cost effective, and my partner and I actually thought that we got more than we expected by the rate we paid. Although the room was very basic and the bathroom very small, both were extremely... More

I stayed at THE PRINCIPADO on Oct 2014, I think I made a good choice. A clean room with small shower but new and water from shower head runs strong, cold / hot. Reception staff very helpfull and also arranged for me the airline boarding pass. If you want to stay only few minutes away from Puerta del sol and... More

NO AIR CONDITIONING!!. Clean rooms, clean bathrooms. Hostal is located about 4 blocks from AYUNTAMIENTO DE MADRID, 3 blocks from Sevilla Metro Station. If you want to be downtown, this is perfect! Plaza Mayor is about a 15 minute walk. Plaza del Sol is about a 10 minute walk. Once you find Plaza del Sol, you will fiind lots of... More

Great location! Safe street, only a few minutes walk to main areas. The room was very basic & clean, with brand new washroom ensuite. Room was cleaned daily & new towels were given. Front staff was very helpful and welcoming. It was a bit noisy in the mornings d/t a resaturant being right below us, but who goes to Madrid... More

A year ago in the summer, I've been in Madrid,Spain for the second time, after the long period passed from my first stay in the 1979.That was immediately after the Generalisimus Franco stepped down from the power and handed it to the king Huan Carlos. The country changed meanwhile a lot, in direction to establish more sustainable democratic standards and... More

This is a clean, well run hostel in a very safe location. For the absolute base rate of 25 EUR you get a simple but clean room with visually acceptable bed sheets (no horrible dark patterns and furry old fabric), small flat screen TV, large window that can be opened to an internal courtyard. The street it is on is... More

I was in Madrid for 5 weeks, and stayed in 2 rooms here. I was a longer stay during the off season, so I emailed ahead to see if they'd make me a deal, and I did get a nice discounted rate, which was awesome! I really recommend this place for the nice new owner, Christian, and the cleanliness. I... More

I cannot believe how negative some of the reviews for The Principado are. True it had a slightly ramshackle air to it but this is Spain after all and a hostal at that, not a five-star hotel. But that was then.Since this May a new owner has taken over and his new broom has proverbially swept clean. The rooms have been... More

Based on the 4 positive evaluations below of it, I chose this hostel on a recent trip to Spain. Unfortunately, this is the worst establishment I've come across in seven years of travelling. But let me start with the good. It’s in a great central location. I chose a private room with a shared bathroom. But as most travellers know,... More

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighborhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
