I recently spent six nights in Madrid staying at the Hostal Gonzalo. Javier and Antonio were most gracious and helpful. Excellent location, one block from Prado and Starbucks. Private double room with private bath, and free wifi. Many tapas eateries nearby on Calle Huertas and Calle Jesus. Highly recommended. Metro station Anton Martin 4 blocks away. Atocha Railway Station 10... More

We enjoyed our stay at Hostal Gonzalo. Javier is very helpful; the location is close to the Prado, great Tapas bars, and the train station, Puerta de Atocha. The room was small, but clean and there is a cute antique elevator that works quite efficiently to take you to the hostal! Javier was an excellent host, always willing to help... More

We have been staying here for so many years, we can't even remember. We do know that it is like staying with family. This is a very clean and quiet family run hostel that is definitely worth the price. Centrally located near all the great sights in Madrid, you walk every where. As an added bonus, there are numerous bars... More

We wanted an inexpensive 3 night stay in Madrid and thought we'd have to go for a more expensive option. We found this on Trip Advisor and checked it out. It's charming and delightful and Calle Cervantes is in the heart of the old literary/arts quarter of Madrid and only a 5 minute walk to the Prado, airport bus links,... More

I stayed here recently with my adult daughter for a single night. We were in from Andalusia on the train in the afternoon, and leaving early the next morning for the airport. The pension is conveniently located midway between the Atocha train station and a bus stop for the express bus to the airport, with the Prado in between, two... More

It's a great place. The hostel is very nicely decorated and extremely clean. The atmosphere is very nice and the staff helpful. The hostel is very well located. I spent 3 nights there with my boyfriend and would happily come back yet.

Pluses: fantastic location, good cleanliness, friendly staff, free Wi-Fi, great price, 24 hour access, room 12 a good size for 3 adults. Minuses: room furnishings, decoration and harsh lighting could be improved, beds a little hard, pillows extremely hard and oddly shaped. Overall it was a very good stay, in terms of location and friendly staff i don't believe it... More

There was a saying that Spain's greatest playwright -- as great or better than Shakespeare wrote many plays. And his plays were so famous that people said, if it is a Lope play, it must be great! Hostal Gonzalo is the excellent place to stay if you want to be close to the Prado, Huertas, and Santa Ana... heck let... More

We stayed here 1 night in September 2013 and returned for 4 nights in November. The hospitality was great and Javier speaks excellent English and was most helpful, with sightseeing and (nearby) tapas bar advice and arranged an early morning taxi to the airport. The location was excellent and an easy walk to the Atocha train station, major museums (Prada... More
