4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

stayed here for 5 days in July. 37 - 40 degree weather and the AC was perfect. The room was spacious and the bathroom was top notch. The room was recently decorated. We were staying on the 5th floor so had a lovely little window with wooden shutters which workd amazingly. we heard no street noise. This hotel is right... More

This place would have otherwise been great; Spacious rooms, pleasant staff, and a great location. However, the upper floors were under construction when we stayed and this presented a HUGE problem. The upper floors themselves were extremely dusty and smelled terrible from the work. The rooms were clean but opening the door was like entering a sandstorm. Furthermore promptly at... More

The hotel was very friendly and clean. I will recommend this Hotel to anyone that it's interested in staying in Puerta del Sol. The area it's very busy throughout the day and night with streets full of pedestrians. However, the Hotel was very quite and secure. If you are looking to stay in area full of life than i will... We stayed at Hotel Fransisco for 3 nights and we loved it. The things we loved about this hotel was location (center of Madrid near Plaza Mayor), the modern feel, very clean, the orginal brick in the room, bathrooms were very nice, the people at the front desk spoke good english and were very helpful. The breakfast was good but... More

I was a little nervous when the taxi driver dropped us off at the hotel as it looked more like a hostel on the outside. But when we entered I realized that it was a very nice hotel. The downside of the entrance is you have to go up several sets of stairs with your luggage, but the hotel staff... More

twelve of us on a couples weekend to celebrate friends 50th. Hotel was undergoing some building work so corridors were a bit dusty and tools everywhere. this didnt bother us and the rooms were modern and spacious with good en-suite. This hotel is classed as a 2 star but I think this is a bit low. Staff were helpful and... More

Despite the builders we enjoyed our stay at the Francisco. The central location proved ideal with all the main attractions within walking distance or a short bus ride. I'm a disabled person and the disabled room was wonderful, the wet room especially was roomy and well equipped. We look forward to the reception being street level and the lifts accessible... More

I was rather surprised by the good reviews because this was the only hotel at which we stayed during our recent trip to Spain that proved seriously problematic. On the good side, the room (we reserved a double for a family of three) was huge; the people who worked there are generally nice and helpful; the beds relatively comfortable with... More

Central location, very clean modern and nice rooms! Gentle and careful staff, 2 stars hotel but definitely a superior class. Truly recommended for a 3-4 days stay in Madrid! I would reserve a room again!

Everything you need in the perfect location. I had a great view from my room! The service was excellent from the front desk to the breakfast hostess. The front desk helped with all of my requests including finding a channel to watch a futbol match. I couldn't be happier and would love to return again!

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
