We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights this month. We agree with most travelers in that this hotel deserves way more than a 2 star rating. Check in was great and Carlos was very helpful in getting both us and our luggage to our room. The room was lovely and looked out onto the busy street below. I agree... More

Not sure how this hotel is ranked a 2 star but after staying there 5 nights, I give it a solid 3 star rating, even approaching a 4 star! Centrally located for everything we wanted to see and do, Hotel Francisco 1 is the place to stay when visiting Madrid. Very close to 2 major Metro stations (Sol & Opera)... More

On arrival at the hotel, we were a little underwhelmed by the exterior, as the entrance is one you could easily miss, it's just what looks like a doorway off of the main street, Calle Arenal. Once inside however, we saw the modern decor, so we got more of a feel for what this hotel would be like. Check-in was... More

The room was well equipped, very clean, well maintained, trendy design. Breakfast a bit overpriced. Its prime location on the pedestrianized Arenal st. provide you the option of traveling all major tourist attractions by walking. 2 metro station within 250 meters.

This hotel is in a great location for visiting Madrid, between sol and opera metro stations. The rooms are very comfortable with great beds and air con. Can be a bit noisy at night but windows and shutters worked well to minimise . Staff were helpful . Would stay here again

Have just returned from a 3day trip to Madrid.....and stayed in this hotel. It is classed as 2* but it's as good or if not better than some 4* I have stayed in. You could actually miss this hotel as it's entrance is just glass sliding door you have to look up to see the sign.........entrance is very welcoming and... More

First impressions at reception was impressive; considering they have two stars displayed on the entrance. Gold aluminium silver discreet lighting and marble. We arrived around 21.00. Greeted by all male middle aged staff with 'typical European efficiency'. Make of that what you will. A minimalist modern style, our room was clean, nice beds, tastefully lit with embedded lights. We were... More

Having just literally returned from the hotel today I thought I'd add a review. First of all the hotel is in a great location. Close to the centre of everything with most places to eat and being entertained being only a few minutes walk. We were there as part of a stag do and had 4 rooms booked. All rooms... More

This hotel is perfectly located very close to Madrid's main attractions. It is not really a 2 star hotel, but a 3 star, and offers a 4 star breakfast and service. Our room was on the 3rd floor (number 302, newly renovated, nice, modern and comfortable) and we did not hear almost any noise from the very busy street. If... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
