Good value, great location. Rooms are nice. Be prepared for plenty of crowd noise day and night as the hotel faces a busy pedestrian area. If driving, its best to just get as close as possible and grab a spot in any public parking lot then walk to hotel. Navigation is difficult.

Location, cleanliness and service were excellent. Staff was very helpful. Sleep quality was good, but our door room close to the elevator let us hear all its use. Price was somehow overrrated (over 166 eur/night). The hotel web offers standard rooms 23 m2 for 1-2 people, superior rooms 26 m2 for 2-3 people and suites 35 m2 for up to... More

The best thing about this hotel is the location. Having used the metro to get to the hotel from the airport we only had to use it once more to travel to The Bernebau stadium. The royal palace, opera house, The Prado are all within walking distance of the hotel and for that reason alone we would recommend it to... More

I was a little disappointed at reception, which is unassuming and outdated. But then I was pleasantly surprised by the room: spacious and clean. It can be a little noisy (not only from the very busy street, but also the renovations that the hotel is undergoing). Staff was very helpful and cordial. All in all, an excellent deal.

I had been planning my trip to Spain for a while, and part of that was researching, reserving, and prepaying as much of it as possible ahead of time. The initial hotel we wanted was booked, so my backup was the Francisco I, which was still available. We made the reservation, with weeks before our trip. The area was perfect... More

Our first visit to Madrid and we were not disappointed! The hotel was perfectly located in a pedestrianised street close to all the main central attractions. Comfortable, modern rooms which were spotlessly clean and friendly, helpful staff. Our room overlooked the main street on the first floor. There was some noise during the night (revellers) but this did not bother... More

We have recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights which was our first stay in Madrid. We were not disappointed with our choice of hotel. The location was perfect as it was central to all the city highlights and within very short walking distance to Plaza Mayor and Puerto del Sol and the royal palace and the many shops... More

We stayed 4 nights in the Francisco 1 and it was a great experience. The rooms were very modern and well appointed. We hadn't booked for breakfast but decided to pay for it and it was well worth the 7 euros per person. The location of the hotel is really great for exploring Madrid as it is smack bang in... More

Stayed two nights; great central location on Calle Arenal - 5 minutes walk from either Sol ('Vodaphone Sol'..) or Opera Metro Stations. Had a huge room on the 5th floor (501 worth going for!) very quiet, huge separate shower/twin wash basin room - very swish, with a separate lounge area too (all in room 501..) Everything you'd expect ultra clean,... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
