The location is wonderful with the Toledo Gate in the front. Our room faced the gate and it was just so awesome. Very close walk to the Metro and if you want to catch the Madrid Vision tours, you had a short walk right across from the fire station. I loved it there, at night the Toledo Gate was also... more
This hotel was a little out of the way. But bus stops are right next to the hotel that can take you to all the major sights. Buses are only 1 euro each way and come every 5-10 mins. The metro was also close by as well. This Hotel was clean, had air conditioning and was quite. Staff was very... more
I stayed in Madrid in Hotel Puerta de Toledo for one week in July 2008. The hotel is in a good location, "far from the madding crowd":). It's in a nice place, far enough from the center of Madrid to get a good sleep but close enough by metro to get "home" quickly. The single rooms don't face the street... more
Landing in Madrid on a red-eye flight from the US...I arrived at the Hotel Puerta de Toledo (via taxi) and was instantly greeted by friendly english speaking staff. They were quick with the check-in and provided basic info on the local neighborhood, etc. Once I got up to my room I got a slight dose of 2-star reality! The room... more
I stayed here for four nights in late June 2008. The room was a bit spartan, but fine for a 'no-frills' single traveller. The location is not very central, but still within walking distance of the Plaza Mayor. Everything would have been fine, except for the attitudes I experienced in Reception. The female staff were very polite and attentive, but... more
The Puerta de Toledo met our budget for our trip to Europe (Spain was our last stop). We asked for a triple as my wife's son would join us. He was studying in Spain and his command of the language was very helpful. Room was on the 6th floor with a wonderful view of the Puerta de Toledo monument (arch).... more
If you visit Madrid as a sinlge traveller avoid booking a single in this hotel. The room was a prison cell, outdated and with a tiny shower room. The shower was so small you could not move once inside it without hiting your knees and elbows. Furniture old, wallpaper pilling off and hairdryer broken. Breakfast it the hotel was cold... more
Really excellent value for money! Rooms spotlessly clean and quiet. Great location, a stone's throw from the metro. The buffet breakfast definitely a winner, everything fresh and bountiful. In our case it was included which added to the overall experience. I agree, the staff could make an effort to come across slightly more amiable but... we can't always have our... more
This hotel is of a good tourist standard. The rooms were clean and of a high modern standard. The buffet breakfast was varied and included some hot options. There is a small street level cafe at the front offering views of the square. The nearest Metro is just across the other side of the roundabout from the front of the... more
