We stayed at this hotel 4 days and I just want to say that the service was exellent. The hotel itself is small without any facilities, but the people working in the reception are fabolous and extremely helpful . They can help you with any question you have about Madrid. The location could not be better , in a quiet... More

This hotel is in a superb location close to all the main tourist attractions.in Madrid. Metro is 2 minutes away. The Anaco is very dated and is in desperate need of a refurb. Couldn't get anything to eat and couldn't even get a cup of coffee. Staff were friendly and very apologetic. Ok for one night but wouldn't stay any... More

I have stayed in Hotel Anaco around 4 or 5 times (between May 2011 and June 2012). I used to live in the south of Spain so it was in a great location for meeting family in Madrid or as a stopover when travelling to/from the airport. The hotel is quite basic but I have stayed here both on my... More

I am now sure where else people have stayed that are giving this hotel 3-5 stars. It is a one star hotel that is in the center of Madrid. The outside had me super worried when I arrived because it looked liked a building that needs condemned. The inside was clean downstairs, but not fancy by any standards. The staff... More

Excellent location. Didn't have any problems with staff or cleanliness. Excellent location. Would stay here again. I emailed them before my trip and they confirmed everything I needed to know within minutes.

Despite booking weeks in advance and confirming the booking Hotel Anaco didn’t have enough rooms available when our group arrived on the first night of our 3 night stay. Out of 9 twin rooms booked, 2 rooms weren’t available. This forced 2 people to stay in another hotel (at significant cost) and another 2 (guys) had to share a single... More

You cant ask for more based on their price and location!! Every time I go to madrid, I always stay there!! Is the only hotel that I actually divide into two different rooms with my family because of their cheap price!

Its a shame to have to write this review since the actual hotel is well placed in madrid, central, reasonably clean and offers value for money. Unfortunately the manager has clearly decided he can make extra money by overbooking his hotel, claiming that the room you should have is "broken" (see previous review with similar story) when you turn up... Location, location, location, which is important on a city tour, and the hotel Anaco is definitely in a fantastic location. Right in the centre, but the side street location means you avoid city night noise. We were lucky and got one of the renovated rooms on the top floor, with new beds, clean bathroom and nice small balcony. The staff... More

You get a good bed and a good shower for the few hours you spend on the room during a city trip of 3 days. Free Wifi is a pro, a little bit too warm on the room. Breakfast is very basic. Good price/quality !

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
