Excellent location..close to major shopping streets, two metro stops and close to del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The decor is tastefully modern and the rooms spacious and well appointed. The restaurant, bar and outdoor area was perfect as well as convenient. The food was excellent and the drinks were generous. The front desk service was warm, very helpful and the... More

Hotels vary wildly as to the needs of travelers. But when it comes down to it what is most important is customer service. The Hotel Preciados has my gratitude first and foremost because in my unexpectedly short stay they didn't take advantage of me and in fact helped make my life a lot easier. I got extremely sick (and ended... More

Our flight to Madrid arrived early and I was fully expecting to have to wait a few hours for check-in. Not the case. We were in our room within minutes - after we were given a choice between two rooms one in the newer more contemporary section or one in the more traditional - we chose the former. It wasn't... Brilliant hotel, very helpful staff and the breakfasts are delicious. The food is very Spanish. The rooms are very comfortable. For once, the air conditioning was not noisy enough to ruin your nights sleep. The

Want to walk to prado and Palacio in under 20 minutes? This is your place. Excellent breakfast, free mini-bar, and complimentary bottle of wine with offer we booked. There is a phone shop literally 30 meters away that allowed me to switch out sim card to use my US Verizon iphone in Spain for the entire trip (1 GB for... More

Stayed here for a couple of days in late-June. Hotel was clean and stylish; front desk, bar and restaurant service was attentive and pleasant; and location was perfectly walkable to all major central Madrid sites. Our room rate included breakfast, which was above average for European breakfast buffet standards and provided a good start to each day's sightseeing. Room was... More

Hotel Preciados was among the best hotels I had stayed at in Europe. This is a 4 star hotel but priced more like a 3 star one. It is located at Plaza Santo Domingo, a very lively and convenient neighbourhood. Metro is a stone-throw away. There are many restaurants around. There are a few corner stores along Calle Veneras but... More

In great location just off |Grand Via. A couple of minutes walk to Puerto Del Sol and maybe 10 minutes to Plaza Mayor. Lots of bars/restaurants in the immediate vicinity around the hotel - plus the hotel's own bar/restaurant. Rooms are a good size for a city centre hotel , well appointed and very clean. Beds are king size and... More

After a long haul flight from Sydney it was a relief to find a groovy, clean and smart establishment. Most important was that the location was just off the main busy thoroughfare but very close to the action on a hot summer Sunday night. The restaurant at the front serves what must be the best gin and tonics I've had... More

We stayed at the Hotel Preciados for four nights in late June. The hotel itself is great - nice, clean, comfortable and in a fantastic location right in the middle of all of the action. The rooms are small but super nice (the bathrooms in particular are amazing - although its all glass so if you're in bed while your... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
