We made a mistake and paid extra to stay in the Hemmingway "suite" for four days despite poor comments here about it……which turned out to be true. For over 200 euros per night excluding breakfast we thought it was not only overpriced but actually a room we would never choose to go back to, even for half the price. The... More

Hotel Preciados was very upscale and located in a very convenient location. You could practically walk to any location in Madrid or easily access the Metro. The front desk staff were very nice and accomodating. Even the bell hops were nice and very gracious. The restaurants located on that block of the city were excellent too!

Very good location and friendly staff. Room not large but nicely fitted with good bathroom. Restaurant ok for food but not great, however staff and breakfast excellent. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Since our first review of Hotel Preciados in April 2013 we have been back on a number of occasions - the last being a six night stay (bed and breakfast) at the end of February. As always we received a warm welcome and the check-in process was carried out quickly and efficiently. All our questions and requests for information were more... More

This hotel actually deserves being mentioned and praised. Its location is perfect, its staff most friendly and helpful, its facilities very satisfactory , its breakfast delicious, and it has something we had never encountered before: free drinks from the frigobar.

While the room was rather small and did not have a lot of storage space for our clothes, that is the only negative I can come up with. The bed was superlatively comfortable, the staff spoke excellent English and was very friendly and knowledgeable. The location of the hotel was a major plus. It was close to everything yet located... The hotel is very central - we walked everywhere. The staff very helpful. We stayed for 4 nights and found it an excellent base. The room was smart and comfortable, if a bit too warm at night. We didn't have food in the hotel.

Took us a few spins around the block to figure out where to pull in the car - the hotel is on a pedestrian street so it looks like you can't turn on to it, but cars use it for the hotel and other businesses. Super comfortable bed; great breakfast for every palate; very convenient for a two day stay... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
