The hotel staff and accommodations could not have been more perfect. We were a large group of 10 people celebrating my boyfriend's birthday.. We were central to meeting other friends in the city, the rooms were large and well appointed. Also, the lobby bar was a great meeting spot and the bar staff could not have been more friendly. Top... The location of this hotel is absolutely amazing, you couldn't be more central if you tried. The area seemed very safe and we enjoyed going out for dinner and drinks late at night as the city was still so alive. There's so much to do in the city, however the hotel weren't too helpful at advising us on what to... More

Stayed here many times whilst in Madrid, although not been for a few years. This is an excellent hotel with great facilities. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is very nice and the location is perfect if visiting Madrid right on Gran Via close to everything including the Theatres.

Without the pool and roof terrace this hotel is average and the rooms could do with a refurbishment. But with so much to do and see in Madrid you don't spend much time in the hotel anyway, and the central location is great for sightseeing. It was 40+ degrees c in July and the roof terrace (in the shade on... More

My husband and I were celebrating his 30th birthday in Madrid and man did we make a bad choice with Hotel Emperador. The rooms are based on the 1980's. Very old and not modern. The breakfast was quiet average and nothing much to be excited about. The service at the front desk was the worst - they only gave us... More

I stayed her for 2 nights. The hotel is nice, it's in a great location and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but perfectly fine. The showers are powerful. Noise insulation is not very good. Beds are satisfactory and pillows are good. I would stay here again!

I stayed here for 2 nights mid Jan. club room size was good - although my supposedly non-smoking room came with matches and an ashtray! gran Via is very noisy (as I knew) and I wasn't prepared for the old fashioned secondary double glazing to rattle all through the night, nor for an incredibly hard mattress. Coupled with the room... More

This hotel is trying to transition from an old school hotel to a block booking for large groups. I loved the old style architectural details but can understand how North Americans will find the rooms small. The pool was a good size and had a great view but I would love to see guests get some preference. Met some wild... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
