For the price of the hotel, it was just average. The air conditioning worked great. It was a decent size room. There was a rooftop pool, for those brave enough to face the brutal heat. You will pay 12 Euros for internet in the room. For me, that knocked it down a mark, because it wasn't that great of a... More

We had a chance to stay at this hotel which has never live up to the status and name as claimed. We booked this hotel for two reasons; after reading nice reviews and as it location is very much strategic. Well, soon we only found out that it just a fairy tale! We paid 72EUR (for week) for internet which... More

The location is fabulous. The fact it has a pool on the roof is great too. However, if you actually want to sit on a nice chair at the pool you have to pay another 50 euros for the pleasure. If you want to use wifi anywhere you have to pay...except the lobby. Our room was small...no coffee or tea... More

Location = 5 hard to beat Cleanliness = 4 (did not even hang or fold our towels but other wise clean) Wifi = in the lobby ONLY! Slow like a third world country. Unless you pay $15 euro a day for it in your room you will end up in the lobby with all of the others unwilling to pay... More

We stayed here for my partner's birthday. I emailed ahead to request a room with a balcony and was allocated a room without a balcony, which had rooms with balconies on either side. I found this quite amusing and typical Spain - the same thing happened on honeymoon. Anyway the hotel is in a great location and easy to find... More

For the price ok, most attractive due to central location at La Gran Via. Rooms ok, most of them without a nice view (blocked by other buildings. Pool ok on the top, breakfast very simple, better go outside right next to the hotel. No free internet on the rooms (only for laptops - weird).

We were spending 5 nights in Madrid for a city break but also wanted somewhere with a nice area where we could relax after a busy day sightseeing. We picked this hotel as nice hotels in central Madrid with a pool are a rarity and I am really glad we did. Check in was reasonably quick and efficient, we had... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
