Hotel looks rather "tired", with a noisy ventilation system and 4 * maybe in Greek style. Breakfast at 9 EUR is very good, the staff is very friendly and supportive. The position is excellent, on Grand Via, near Place Espana and metro station nearby (line 10, going also directly to Nuevo Ministerio station- connected with airport line)

We booked the Tryp Menfis to celebrate my birthday. We have stayed in this hotel every year for the last 5 years and always been happy with the standard of this 4 star hotel, however this year we found the hotel to be in desperate need of repair and more befitting of a 2 star hotel. On entering the hotel... More

Very happy with the hotel, its splendid location and the general experience of staying there. The staff was indeed very professional and helpful. I was here for business, so didn't choose or pay for this hotel. Its location is great - although potentially noisy as it's on a main street (I'm a city-dweller so this didn't bother me). Downsides: my room (4414) was very hot; the airconditioning didn't work well (or perhaps, as the weather was cold by Madrid standards, the heating was... More

This hotel is in the heart of Madrid, on the Gran Via. Nearly all the main attractions are within a short walk away, from Plaza España, Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, etc. There are so many restaurants and tapas bars that you couldn't' possibly try them all. You can also walk to Mercado San Miguel for more informal eating. Menfis Tryp... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
