We booked this hotel 4 months ago for a week in May and got a pretty good deal for a place right in Gran Via. We got a bit discouraged due to all the bad reviews so weren't really expecting much. To our surprise, our stay was pretty pleasant. Check in was fast and Santiago on the front desk was... More

We were able to check in early. Staff was high average. A/C was awesome and atypical for Europe. We liked our room. The bathroom a bit on the smaller dose but old European style size. Car rental was a block and a half which was awesome. Location was excellent for metro and bus stops. I would come back.

We booked the hotel because of the attracted prices, location, the level of the hotel in its description and our Gold status with Melia Reward program. However, what a disappointment it was! First of all, we stayed in Melia hotels all around the world - Europe, Americas, etc. and it was the worst ever hotel apart the one in New... More

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights early in May 2015. The location of this hotel really is ideal, very central yet quiet (our room window gave to the back of the street rather than the main road) and close to many shops and public transports, including a Metro stop that will bring you to the airport. All the... More

We felt let down by this well known hotel chain. We had carefully looked at several hotels and chose TRYP Madrid Plaza Espana because it had large light rooms, which were advertised as such on their website, with attractive photos. You can imagine our surprise, after a lengthy check-in to find ourselves in two dark, gloomy rooms from which it... More

We booked this hotel as it was centrally located to enable us to celebrate with our grown-up children the 18 months we lived in Madrid when we were first married 47 years ago. We booked well ahead in November 2014 for our April/May visit in 2015, booking 2 Standard rooms which seemed perfect on the hotel website being both spacious... More

We've got mixed feelings about this hotel. We have the Melia Rewards card so we happily booked this hotel to spend a couple of nights in April/May, and also for a weekend in October and December. Pros: location and room size. Cons: we booked 2 rooms with views to the Gran Vía. What a surprise when we saw a scaffold... More

We were with a tour company that uses this hotel frequently. As others have mentioned, the location is very convenient, walking distance to many sites, restaurants and shops and metro. At the time of our arrival, and until the day before we left, they were working on the main entrance door. We had to enter the hotel via the not-too-attractive... More

Pros: location, services, room size, balconies to Grand Via, various breakfast, close to Metro Station, close to Shopping streets. Cons: during my stay there were construction works for building facades; Grand Via is a little bit noisy also during night time.

Pros: Location, good size of room, balconies with most rooms, breakfast good (on the whole apart from one instance see below) Cons: Rooms too hot, decor sometimes broken and tired looking, mould in my yogurt at breakfast, characterless I've stayed here twice for work and the location was a primary concern. However I wouldn't go back again as the place... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
