Our last night in Spain was spent at the Tryp Gran Via Madrid. In a great location in the city. Our room was small, just slightly larger than the width of the 2 king single beds pushed together. Renovations were in progress on the floor below but didn't disturb us for our short stay. Our room had obviously been refurbished.... More

I used to live in Madrid (Atocha) and recently returned for a long weekend. I've previously stayed in several locations, but the Gran Via seems to be the most convenient and well-connected area in Central Madrid. It is a very easy and pleasant walk to Puerto del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, upscale shopping and even a reasonable downhill... More

The Hotel Tryp Gran Via is in a great location in the city of Madrid. The staff were very good but were under a great deal of stress. Renovations are still going on and I gather that they were supposed to be finished before our stay in early June. There is no bar, wifi is slow and the foyer is... More

Located along Madrid's "5th Ave". Step out the main glass door and the Metro Station is about 20 steps near. Amazing. Hotel interior design is tasteful and simple. IKEA-ish laminated flooring. The room aircon wasn't working but the staff immediately gave me another room. The wall-mounted TV didn't have a good reception or connection but the staff came up immediately... More

Stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is doing renovations and during the night windows banged open and closed. When we spoke to the hotel front desk, they stated that they knew, and dismissed our concern with no appologies. The banging continued the following night!!! The room we stayed in was for 2, there was insufficent space to move around... More

Locatin was perfect!! Hotel is clean, comfortable beds. Newly renovated with wood floors throughout. Staff was pleasant. We wished we had upgraded to the next room size as our room was very small for two petite women each with a suitcase. The only down side was banging windows in the hallways from the wind a couple of nights (I think... More

Excellent location in the city center great for shopping cafes and restaurants. Spacious great room, clean. Staff lovely and very helpful . good breakfast includes fruit and drinks, in the dining room overlooking the city. It is important to ask for a quiet room, some with very high noise Also floors with no carpet in the hallway ,are better

Stayed here with my friend for 3 nights bed and breakfast. The reception area is clean and modern, and further renovations are taking place in the rooms. The rooms have thin walls and are in great need of updating but once this happens the hotel will be a great base for exploring Madrid - so don't let that put you... More

I read terrible reviews of this hotel and was very concerned on what I would find when my son booked me into here. With my expectations at zero levels I was surprised by the clean and elegant reception and the helpful staff on my arrival, to say I was slightly thrilled would be putting it mildly. The surprises continued as... More

Excellent stay. Try to book this very hotel or the nearest Melia Memphis or Washington! Comfort room, sweadish-style breakfast. I heard - it's a legendary hotel - so my proposal - is to promote the details.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
