I read terrible reviews of this hotel and was very concerned on what I would find when my son booked me into here. With my expectations at zero levels I was surprised by the clean and elegant reception and the helpful staff on my arrival, to say I was slightly thrilled would be putting it mildly. The surprises continued as... More

Excellent stay. Try to book this very hotel or the nearest Melia Memphis or Washington! Comfort room, sweadish-style breakfast. I heard - it's a legendary hotel - so my proposal - is to promote the details.

This hotel was chosen for me by the University. Thus, I really had no say in the reservation. However, I always approach a new hotel with an open mind, and am prepared for almost anything. Evidently, the low rate given to government employees meant that I would not get a good room, but I had not expected a room quite... More

We love this hotel ! My wife and our then 3 year old son stayed in this hotel more then 30 years ago for the first time. We have re-visited several times, no Son in tow. The location is great , the staff is friendly and attentive and yes, upgrading is overdue but it is being done. Perhaps it is... More

Very central hotel, in the heart of Madrid. Plenty of shops, restaurants and night life immediately when you step out from the hotel. Currently under renovation, but still delivering a good service. Good value hotel! It is a practical location for business or pleasure.

Great location on Gran Via. The hotel is currently undergoing a refurb and looks a bit ugly in public areas. The works did not disrupt us in the room though. Our room (107) was clean, basic and satisfactory with great central heating. We had two twin beds pushed together, though the receptionist at check in had given us the option... More

We stayed here for three nights through a cheap deal on lastminute, where a double room (no breakfast) on a weekday night cost only GBP 43. For this kind of money, given the excellent location, I feel we are not in a position to complain. Just as with previous reviewers, we noted the threadbare carpet, road and crowd noise, titchy... Great location. Good people behind desk. But.... It does need new carpets and a lick of paint. Wasn't deliriously happy that I had to pay extra 11 euros for breakfast either. However, it was easy to get to so many places and I was on my own... So what the hell. Wouldn't stay there a second time though.

Great location: Gran Via so walking distance from Prado Museum, Puerta del Sol or Plaza Mayor. Very good choice for breakfast, which was included in price. Taking into account that it is city center, breakfast is included, wi-fi is included and generally not much rooms for this specific weekend were available price was really good. What I did not like... More

Excellent location. Near to metro Gran Via; near Puerta del Sol and other attractions in downtown Madrid. Though not having minibar, owns in-between floor refrigerators self-service. Comfortable and spacious room

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
