Visited madrid 17th April til 20th April and stayed in this hotel with a friend, we were seen to rather quickly when we arrived with a warm welcome. Arrived in the room, was pretty basic but had everything we needed it for for the weekend. The beds were pretty comfy, the pillows were amazing! Only thing that was rather annoying... More

I would highly recommend this hotel. It was our first time to Madrid. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The only thing I would say is the bed was a bit creaky every time I turned over but it didn't bother us too much. There was a nice treat of nibbles waiting in the room for us when... More

You know what you're getting with the Melia group. Well located hotels, spacious rooms with comfy beds and some relatively expensive restaurant loosely based around the home cuisine of the country you're visiting. Tryp Ambsssador is no different. My girlfriend and I went during the half term holiday, thankfully the hotel was not over run by kids. But disappointed we... More

It's our first time in Madrid and we wanted to be somewhere central as we like to cover most of our touring on foot. This hotel is in the perfect location! The palace and opera square are a few blocks away, Gran Via (shopping and double decker tour ) is just around the corner. There's a Costa a block away.... More

This hotel is in a safe and convenient location just a few hundred metres from Santo Domingo metro station (Line 8). It is within easy walking distance of other metro stations on different lines which give better access to other Madrid sites. Travelling on the metro from the airport to the hotel is simple ( remember, however, you have to negotiate... More

First of all, thank you for your comment. We are happy to know that you liked the hotel and the city. Let me apologize for the noise in the mornings. The housekeeping team works hard every day to clean up the rooms as fast as possible in order to have rooms available for other guests, but anyway, I’ll let them... More

This is an excellent location for a long weekend visiting the main sights of Madrid. (See the reviews by Gerard G and burtonna which detail how close the metros, palace, cathedral, Gran Via and opera are.) It's also on the edge of the latin quarter: cafes and restaurants abound for beers, glasses of wine, tapas and meals- the eating possibilities... More

Situated mere steps from the Santo Domingo metro stop (uphill from the hotel) or alternately, three minutes walk from Opera station around the corner in Plaza Isabella, this hotel is ideally located for several reasons. For shopping go out the door turn left and walk six minutes to Gran Via, for the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) go out the door... More

At first sight, the entrance looked er, downmarket. Happily, what lay beyond was distinctly upmarket, though slightly dated. Reception was very good, our Spanish & the staff's English got us through the procedure fairly quickly and, armed with a city map and all the info we required, we went to our 6th floor Junior Suite. A huge bedroom with a... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
