Stayed 2 nights with a Gate1 Tour. The lobby is striking and beautiful..but the rooms are small and not very nice. For a tourist, there is no reason to stay here - no shopping nearby - no parks or things to do...very few restuarants. But our biggest complaint was that it took more than 2 hours for the staff to... On my recent trip to Madrid, I stayed in Melia Galgos hotel. It gave me a large, lovely room with everything one would want - large bed, modern bathroom and clean room. Close to restaurants and shopping Centre. We also found a Starbucks a few blocks away. The hotel reception staff were friendly and spoke excellent English. The mini bar... More

Well placed Melia hotel with an interesting lobby in terms of design, a mix of 1980s style mixed with more contemporary influences. Fast check in, no issues there. The issue is that the rooms are small and very noisy. I could hear all the other guests walking by talking while awaiting the lifts. I could also clearly hear my next... More

The Melia Galgos is located adjacent to the Salamanca shopping distict and one block from the US Embassy. The location requires a lot of walking or a taxi ride to get into the city center however the benefit to being on the outskirts is a quiet night's sleep. The "downtown" area can be noisy with all the nightlife in Madrid.... More

On a recent trip to Madrid, I stayed in two Melia hotels. This one gave us a large, lovely room with everything one would want - King size bed, desk, modern bathroom The wifi worked everywhere we went in the hotel. Some tour groups were at the hotel, so breakfast was sometimes very crowded, other times very spacious. Good breakfast.... More

The breakfast buffet at the Melia Galgos is wonderful and it has everything you would want to eat. There is a large variety of fruits and breads. The warm meats are very good, specially the sausages. It is a ok hotel. But the safe provided in the room are not really good, they cant be trusted.Staff are nt helpful, when we reported a incident, rather they tried to cover it up. Just in for the one night, reception good, room stuffy and dark but clean would accept the room upgrade if offered again: bar staff attentive, breakfast was disappointing overall but did have a good selection of cold food good however scrambled eggs, or rather egg slice were not.

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
