Vincci Capitol hotel has one of the best locations you can get in Madrid. The area is full of restaurants, shops, cinemas, public transportation and pedestrian streets. The property has small terrace with a bar that is great for sunset viewing with a drink (or two). If you travel with your other half they have a small spa that can... More

I was international student from London studying my masters in Madrid so I knew the city very well and I wanted a hotel that would accommodate my family for their 7 night trip to Madrid for my graduation with separate rooms, we wanted a hotel the was in the heart of town with great views and good transport links. The... More

Location was stunning (under Schweppes sign on Gran Via overlooking Callao!)! Room upgraded to Superior but incredibly confusing! Lighting options resulted in dim lighting split bathroom in 3 locations confusing initially. Thermostat not obvious so ended up sleeping in a freezing room which sadly spoilt the experience. Also restaurant facilities and service VERY disappointing with a very limited menu for... More

If you are a mould lover or addicted to sniffing cheap perfume, I can offer you an over priced hotel with the worst design ever. I thought I landed in a cheap disco, or a one hour motel, I'm still not sure we didn't ... They charged us €205 for the three of us for the night but only after... More

The receptionist wanted us to pay in full upfront and was very rude and argumentative when we queried this demand. We were not offered any help with our luggage. The room had an unpleasant odor and we had to keep the window open. The decor of the room was outdated and looked like a bordello. The lights were very dim which... More

Very good hotel to stay, while in Madrid. Central location, close to many restaurants and snack bars(DUNKIN-if you are addicted as I am).Pretty much everything is on walking distance. The room was nice, well furnished and clean. The rooftop terrace overlooks Gran Via-on of the busiest streets in Madrid.

What really is of value in this hotel are the very few rooms with terrace that they have, from which one can have stunning views of Madrid from one's room! Careful, there are standard (too narrow) and superior (more spacious) such rooms. I should not omit to mention the very pleasant and professional staff working at the cafe / morning... More

For me a weekend in Madrid means I want to be right in the middle of the city center. This hotel was great! The Metro, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and the park El Retiro in walking distance. The hotel had a great atmosphere, and the best - it was so quiet! Even though the streets were full of People... More

Stayed four nights, good service, spacious and very clean room (610). Got a good discount rate. Wifi worked very well (6th floor), I could even connect from down the street. I did not try their breakfast (15 Euros seemed over the top).

Our family of three (husband, 1 year old baby and myself) stayed at this hotel last week. Upon arrival we headed to the reception. The person there was quite uninterested and decided to take some personal calls while attending to us simultaneously. We didn't mind that but the attitude we got was quite aloof. Now to the rooms, the room... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
