This hotel is a great location for a sightseeing trip to Madrid. It is located within short walking distance to many squares and places of interest. There is lots useful stores and cafes nearby for arrival essentials. The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming. We received a welcome drink on arrival which was a nice touch. The room was spotlessly... More

What a great stay here! I researched many hotels and am thrilled with my decision. Staff was friendly knowledgeable and the hotel was spotless. I love the left the original stairs and the courtyard was beautiful and serene. Location is quiet and perfect besides being a busy street during the day. Huertas, the neighborhood, is walking distance to everything except... More

Hotel Catalonia Plaza Mayor is centrally located and is a nice modern hotel. It is right next to the metro, so it was easy to get to/from the airport and all the sites. Our room was very quiet and nice sized. Would definitely stay here again if returning to Madrid.

The hotel is lovely, very modern decor. The bedroom i stayed in was massive amd had little balcony doors which was a lovely touch and the bathroom was very big. Very central to the bars if that is what you are looking for and also close to a lot of restaurants and shopping areas. Highly recommend the hotel to family... More

We stayed 6 days in total but in 2 halfs going to Seville as well. Our first room was bit noisy and old fashioned but. Clean and good size, it was on the front on Atocha st. so bit noisy. On our return from Seville we had requested a quieter room, this was provided and by far the much nicer... More

Pros: Great central location for walking around downtown. Room was a good size. Loved the windows overlooking courtyards. The shower was huge and the rain-head was nice. Cons: Bed was pretty hard. Would have liked a few more outlets in the room. Glass door to bathroom lacks privacy. Unfortunately, with some confusion during booking our trip, we accidentally paid for... More

We found the Hotel Catalonia Plaza Mayor to be a good place to stay in Madrid. The hotel is near the city center and offers easy access to most of the main sightseeing attractions. The hotel is relatively small, and is on a main street, but had good insulation, and we did not hear street noise during sleeping hours. Although... More

A bit corporate in decor, not so cool but comfy beds and great food. We (as per usual) checked in late and just caught the tail end of service. We both had the 3 course set menu and I have to say, it was delicious! Not too pretentious but classic I have fish to start and a fish main and... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
