The Hotel Moderno is located just steps from the Puerta del Sol, Madrid's main center. Other than the rooms being on the smaller side, the hotel was very nice, and like I said, the location was absolutely perfect. Just know, if you want something quiet, this hotel isn't really for you, seeing as the plaza is bustling well into the... More

Started and ended my 14 days in Spain at this hotel, 3 nights in total. The hotel was great. Geared equally toward business and tourist guests. The location is percfect! It's right in the heart of the city. Located adjecent to the Plaza del Sol metro station, walking distance of Plaza Mayor, the Mercado, and loads of shopping, cafe's, and... More

Two steps away from Plaza del Sol which is the centre of Madrid. Metro stop, train stop--- in the middle of all of the action. walking distance about 15 minutes to the Palais/Opera in the west and 20 minutes to the Prado/Park in the east. Pedestrian all street right outside the hotel with plenty of shopping. 5 minutes to Plaza... More

Located just off Plaza del Sol and an easy walk to opera, Plaza Mayor, lots of restaurants and public transit, this hotel is worth more than the modest price. Rooms are tight, as is the bathroom, but the location makes up for that and more. Staff is very helpful and speak English well. Additional cost for breakfast which we didn't... More

I believe this is the key-word when it comes to Hotel Moderno: location! It's practically in La Puerta del Sol, the subway is very close, lots of restaurants and shops around. The rooms are not very spacious, but clean, the breakfast is okay, the staff is helpful, but nothing extraordinary about this hotel, except...its location.

Rooms are very small but common for Europe. This hotel is in the middle of the plaza! Excellent location. The front staff was very helpful to make transfer arrangements and help us with other details! We had 2 rooms, a double and triple. The triple had a much larger bathroom.

This is perfect for the price you pay. It in on the heart of everything. Close to La Puerta del Sol. Close to Palacio Real, close to Vodafone Sol metro station, close to Opera metro station. Could be dense after midnight, but is safe to walk. There are many good places to eat around. The air conditioner is not good... More

We try to stay in madras for a few days every May / June. This time we stayed at the Hotel Moderno Madrid. It was found to be clean tidy and the rooms although on the compact side were well appointed for a 3 star hotel and above all quiet cool (with the aircon on) and dark with the shutters... More

The location is perfect, just next to the "Plaza del Sol". The service is nice Andre the breakfast is good. The best thing to do is stay at least 2 days. Everything is very close. The rooms are a little bit small but they are okay for staying the night.

I stayed here with my parents for a couple of nights when they arrived from Miami. The staff was extremely accommodating as they arrived in the morning. They were able to get a room for them within 1 hour. The room was clean and the location is excellent - close to everything - Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, subway. And... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
