If you choose Hostal La Macarena for your trip to Madrid, you'll be where you wanna be, in the heart of the city. Plaza Mayor is just a walk away and the folkloristic 'Mercado de San Miguel' is just next to it. The hostel is the perfect starting point for any kind of trip. If you're up for some drinks... More

Sometimes I reward myself for picking the right place to stay while traveling. This was one of those places. We just needed one last night in Spain before departing to home. This small room served perfect for us to get in one last sight in Madrid, (the Palace) before boarding the plane. Right near the Plaza Mayor convenient to the metro.... More

I stayed here for 4 nights, wanted a safe and central place as I was travelling by myself. I love the location! It's only steps from Plaza Mayor and other great restaurants, bars, cafés and sights. The rooms are simple but clean and adequate. Staff are helpful. I asked specifically for a balcony based on reviews, really enjoyed watching and... More

This was our second stay because the location is unbeatable for the price. The rooms are small but perfectly appointed. The streetscape outside is buzzing with bars, restaurants and the Plaza Major. The staff are very nice and gentle. It's just great!

We spent three nights, it is very friendly, yoU feel like at home, the employees are very friendly, it's location is very nice, 1 minute to Plaza Major (through the stairs), 3 minutes from La Latina metro station (line 5 green). I live in Spain but not in Madrid so when my friends or family visit me and want to see Madrid I think this is a perfect Hostel. The hotel location is really good, surrounded with restaurants and 1 mins away from Mercado San Miguel and Plaza Mayor, 5 mins from the famous Churros shop San Gines , 7 mins... More

Located in the center next to the Plaza Mayor. Cozy, clean, and comfortable room with balcony overlooking a charming and animated plaza. Perfect place with a very affordable price. With the window and the balcony door closed it was so quiet that we overslept the next morning. Will certainly return here again and will recommend!

Located in the very center of Madrid, right behind Plaza Mayor and in walking distance to the main touristic spots of the city, it is the perfect spot for a young couple to spend a romantic weekend in Madrid.

I stayed here for 4 nights in November with a friend and it is a beautiful little hotel. I had asked for room 206 before I arrived as I had read good reviews..and I was not disappointed. Whilst the room is small, it is perfectly appointed with everything you could require and the sheltered balcony overlooking the gorgeous street is... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
