Just got back from Madrid -- it was burning hot, 90s+ in day and 70-80 at nite. Their "rooms are air conditioned" is a lie....they have fans! a celing and potable fan is what we had. The staff didn't speak english. And when I wanted to cut my reservation short to get a hotel with AC - they gave me... more

While the location is great, the downside is that it's only one flight above the street which means that restaurant/bar/drunk activity keeps going until 2-3 am and then the trash trucks rumble by an hour later. In other words, it's hard to get a good night's sleep here. Rooms are nice, though we were promised a double bed and had... more

Just outside the Plaza Mayor. Terrific location. Our room was quiet, clean, nice flat screen TV, free internet on their machine. Near markets for snacks and cafes for tapas So glad we stayed there. more

I just returned from 3 nights at the Macarena in November. It is a no frills, but friendly hostal in a good location. When I first arrived I was tired & thought the Macarena was a bit grim. Over the three days the Macarena grew on me, mainly because the staff are warm and friendly. The rooms are basic, but... more

Hotel Macarena is a simple family run hotel located in a very conveniently opposite Plaza Mayor. Our room is facing Cava San Miguel with a little balcony. Initially I have reservations if this will be too noisy, but I was pleasantly suprised the noise from the restaurant below do not bother us at all. If it does, the room has... more

What a hidden gem the Hostal La Macarena is, and positioned right next to the Plaza Major. Although the Hostal does not do meals, that is definitely not a problem, as the area surrounding it has dozens of excellent restaurants and bars. We spent a long weekend here, and even with the temperatures of 38-39 we did not miss air... more

La Macarena is a modest small hostal hotel, located 100 steps from the Plaza Mayor in downtown Madrid on the second floor of a large apartment building (with elevator) on a busy restaurant and tapa bar street. About a 10 minute walk to the Puerta del Sol and its Sol Metro stop, or 10 minutes to the Opera Metro stop.... more

As others have commented, the rooms are small and lacking in decor, but the value is good and the location is perfect. We booked directly with them via email and had no trouble with our reservations. Our room was comfortable and clean. Our windows opened onto a light well so it was fairly quiet. This is not a luxurious place... more

I booked this hotel because of its price and location to the city centre. We were very very pleased with its location right off the plaza Mayor, just round the corner from the old town hall and 5 mins from Sol and its nightlife. The rooms had fans on the ceiling ( 219) which provided air conditioning. The rooms were... more

We booked this hotel after seeing it in the Rough Guide handbook as a reasonable place to stay whilst in Madrid. I was aware that they were a small family run outfit but looked forward to being right by the Plaza Mayor, the centre of all in the city we wanted to see. Booked the room wasn't too hard, we... more
