Booked this for our last night in Madrid before flying back to USA. Location is perfect, next to Plaza Mayor and on Calle Cava de San Miguel-- the "Bourbon Street" area of Madrid. Felt very safe, you get buzzed into the building and onto your floor. Hotel is very clean and charming. We stood on our balcony and people watched... More

Went to Madrid for a long weekend with friends and chose this accommodation because of the location, price and reviews. It couldn't have been better located and the situation is a lovely cobbled street right next to Plaza Mayor. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean and nicely decorated, very traditional and quaint! Our only annoyance was that... More

When I first walked into our lovely bedroom with it's little balcony overlooking the square just off Plaza Major I thought it was my best hotel booking ever! There was a lift so no need to carry suitcases up those stairs. It was fantastic to be so close to Plaza Madrid, Sol and all those tapas restaurants and bars and... More

Central to Mayor Plaza in Madrid. No breakfast available, but clean and the staff was attentive and very helpful. A good choice for a no frills option in the heart of the city. Also, quite quiet given how close it is to everything. Lots to see nearby.

The Hostal is in a perfect location, a twenty minute walk will take you to many of the ideal places for the first visit to Madrid. The Hostal is very clean and tidy and we received four star service at all times. The reception staff all speak very good English and were always available to answer any questions to make... More

If you choose Hostal La Macarena for your trip to Madrid, you'll be where you wanna be, in the heart of the city. Plaza Mayor is just a walk away and the folkloristic 'Mercado de San Miguel' is just next to it. The hostel is the perfect starting point for any kind of trip. If you're up for some drinks... More

Sometimes I reward myself for picking the right place to stay while traveling. This was one of those places. We just needed one last night in Spain before departing to home. This small room served perfect for us to get in one last sight in Madrid, (the Palace) before boarding the plane. Right near the Plaza Mayor convenient to the metro.... More

I stayed here for 4 nights, wanted a safe and central place as I was travelling by myself. I love the location! It's only steps from Plaza Mayor and other great restaurants, bars, cafés and sights. The rooms are simple but clean and adequate. Staff are helpful. I asked specifically for a balcony based on reviews, really enjoyed watching and... More

This was our second stay because the location is unbeatable for the price. The rooms are small but perfectly appointed. The streetscape outside is buzzing with bars, restaurants and the Plaza Major. The staff are very nice and gentle. It's just great!

We spent three nights, it is very friendly, yoU feel like at home, the employees are very friendly, it's location is very nice, 1 minute to Plaza Major (through the stairs), 3 minutes from La Latina metro station (line 5 green). Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
