Our room 400B while having only a window on a light shaft was completely quiet at night and very adequate. The hotel is perfectly situated for walking to all the major galleries and the drinking and dining options around the hotel are great. Highly recommended.

If you want the best location from which to explore Madrid main attractions without paying a fortune, Hostal Persal is it. This is a family run hotel (yeah it is officially categorized as Hostal but don't let that deter you. Comfortable beds, nice lobby, free good internet and solid breakfast round out your stay. The ritz? No, nut absolutely serviceable.... More

My room was tiny, but I had just finished walking the Camino de Compostela, so I didn't have much with me, and I was used to much less personal space! Tiny, but comfortable, clean, with terrific staff. The location was perfect, close to public transportation for the things a bit further, but mostly located right smack dab in the middle... More

Visiting Madrid every year - our recent stay at the Persal must be our 8th or 9th, which obviously says something! The hostal position in Madrid cannot be bettered. The staff are excellent and particular praise goes to Felix, Gemma and Edouardo for all their kind help. Back again next year!

Best bang for your buck while in the downtown area is why this gets a 5/5. The lobby may be spruced up, but the rooms are essentially a higher priced Day's Inn. It's a lower end hotel that is located right in the heart of Madrid, a few blocks from the main plaza. The staff are friendly, the rooms are... More

This is a fantastic hotel. First, the location cannot be beat. Easy walking distance to Sol, Plaza Santa Ana, Prado, etc. The staff is excellent: friendly and helpful. The rooms are somewhat spartan but very comfortable, clean, and quiet. Breakfast is nice and more than adequate. And you really can't beat the incredibly reasonable prices, considering that you get all... More

Very good location, walking distances to many attractions. The staff didn't handle the check out honestly. I was committed to pay the Euro currency when I booked the hotel, but when I checked out at 5AM in the morning, I told them I will pay in Euro. In the bill, they showed the Euro amount and the dollar amount and... More

Dear Guest, It is sure that a confussion has happened at your chek out. We never charge in other currency but euros and when a guest credit card offers the option to be charged either euros or his own currency, it is always his option to choose which one. It looks that dolars could have been chosen by mistake; if... More

Stayed in a single room at the hotel over the UK Bank holiday weekend in May 2015. Room is small, but interior is new. Relatively quiet room (didnt hear anything from the street despite the hype and all that) and amazing shower (Grohe) which helps to relax after a long day of standing/ walking. Note, sounds from corridors do travel. Excellently... More

We previously stayed here in March 2013. Since then, nothing has changed. Staff are extremely helpful and courteous (thanks to Felix, Angel, Mario and all others). This time we had a clean and spacious room facing the plaza, roomy bathroom and fast free WiFi. The included breakfast is more than adequate with no ration police present! Centrally located on Plaza... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
