We are a young couple. Paid 90€ for 2 nights. This being in the centre of the centre is more than fantastic. Staff were very nice and helpful. Room clean and made up daily. They are quite small but very comfortable and it has Air Con which is a great plus for Madrid in August. It is great for explorers.... More

This is a hostel that is located right in the heart of Madrid in Puerto Del Sol. Sol is the central square in Madrid and this hostel is right there. No breakfast, no room service and a simple hotel-like feel. This hostel has three buildings, Victoria I, Victoria II and Victoria III. I stayed in Victoria II which is newer... More

This was our second stay at Hostal Victoria II, here you will find real double beds, not two singles push together, with comfortable mattress, a small refrigerator, a safe and enough closet space for 3, the bathroom is small but sufficient. The best about this place is its location right on Puerta Del Sol and the staff that will help... More

This hostal has a terrible design and floor plan. It's a budget hostel in a very central location. They gave us a 3rd floor room , with no elevator access, except for a long walk through narrow halls and up and down stairs!! Tiring after a long day exploring or you arrival or departure! Reception service was poor, and our... More

The room was really comfortable with safe box and fridge. The bed and bathroom were clean. Being next to Sol square was so helpful to move all around Madrid by metro and bus. Our room was overlooking the Main Street and Sol Square, it wasnot that noisy, anyway, at night it was quite so we slept just fine. AC was... More

If you want to be in the action in the Sol area this is the place to stay. Close to the underground and Renfe stations and surrounded by restaurants and shopping precincts. The room was recently refurbished and serviced daily. Wi-Fi worked (on the 4th floor) and access is controlled by security system and camera. Air conditioned and with multi-channel... More

Pros: Great location with the metro (subway), stores, places to eat near by. Located adjacent to the Puerta del Sol, a main square and metro station, easy to walk around in the area. The only good thing that I would say about the hotel was the good housekeeping service. Cons: Being by a main square it was very noisy to... More

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights what an excellent location to say the least on the doorstep of sol metro station, and sol itself with all the bars, eateries etc the only downside is having to check in at one place then go to the location of your accommodation and the same applied for checking out. On... More

Stayed three nights last weekend. Arrived about 10pm after an evening flight, to a check in at Hostal 1 (rather gloomy place), to a rather confusing way of getting to our room in Hostal II. Room on 5th floor overlooking the street, small room, tiny bath room, although fresh towels and toiletries each day. Noisy on the street below, with... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
