We were booked in a junior suite overlooking the gardens. It was of ample size and included breakfast. This hotel is an oasis in Madrid. The gardens is what makes it outstanding. You can relax here after a day of touring and it so wonderful. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom of good size too. Make sure your... More

We will be checking out in the morning from this gorgeous hotel, and my only regret is that we did not stay here all the nights we were in Madrid. The hotel is gorgeous! Unbelievably gorgeous! Location is a little off the beaten path, but taxis park out front so very convenient. The staff was friendly, efficient and went above... More

Had stayed here many times on business and always been pleased with the quality of the rooms, returned here after 4 years for a leisure break for 3 days. Was upgraded to Presidential Suite which is huge and elegant. The separate lounge is enormous with two full length settees, high ceilings and a large balcony overlooking the gardens. Comfiest bed... This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It was a former embassy (currently across from the Swedish embassy) so the public areas and grounds are exquisite. Our room was on the second (top) floor. It was large and attractive with TWO lounge chairs so we could both relax. The bathroom was good except for the half enclosed shower which is so popular... More

Pros: 1. Great location 2. Great service w/one exception (see Cons below) 3. Unique architecture 4. Lots of taxis outside Cons: 1. The Hotel pumps some cheap smelling perfume throughout the building. If you've ever been to the El Ganso ("the goose" in English) stores in London; it's the same overbearing, cheap smelling, nauseating perfume. It could not stand it,... More

I have been coming to this hotel for more than 20 years, and it has always maintain the highest standards of quality service. The beds, pillows, towels are fantastic!! Location cannot be better, close to everything but in a secluded, quiet street. The junior suites are huge, restaurant and bar services stupendous.

Such sweet folk s work here. Used to be owned by a duke ......wow! Simply amazing. The only slight imperfections to this otherwise heavenly place were: we had a room on the first floor near an outside door. The slamming of the outside door was irritating, and heard often. They had a hot water issue for about 15 minutes in... More

This is a very chic hotel in one of the best residential neighbourhoods of Madrid. Think New York's Upper East Side. I would not recommend it to a first time tourist (for that check into Las Letras) but if you want to be near the lesser known Museo Sorolla and far enough from main museums but still near enough to... In the top 10% of hotels on Trip Advisor for Madrid and well deserved. The hotel is one of those European old/new match ups- with the old wing being the more elegant and elaborate. We had planned our trip far enough in advance to get a great rate for a "premium" room. I was originally afraid that given European sizes,... More

In a quiet but very convenient location, the hotel is close to one of the best shopping areas in Madrid. The rooms are excellent and the staff very gentle. I have stayed there for quite a few times. The last time, my husband got sick at 3 a.m. and the help was quick and efficient. A doctor came in about... More

Staying in Chamberi

Neighborhood Profile
Chamberi
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighborhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.
