Loved this hotel. It was central clean comfortable and the staff were brilliant. I read poor reviews of this hotel but my experience was great. I had a nice room on the second floor. It was plenty big as I was on my own. Everything was clean and comfortable. It had a good size bathroom . The staff were very... More

I booked a bargain 3 night stay bed and breakfast. On arrival could not have been happier. Clean modern hotel, perfect location. Only 45min metro ride from the airport. Moderate sized room overlooking the royal opera house, square and could even see the palace through a gap between buildings. Central location was perfect, good walking distance to all the places... Excellent location, near the palace and plaza mayor. We stayed in a family room, 2 adults and 1 child (11). The room was plenty big enough with lovely views out the the palace and opera house. Hotel was lovely and clean, also nice and quiet when we went. Only slight negative is lack of tea/coffee making facilities in room, however,... More

I booked the Hotel Opera as part of a British Airways flight & hotel deal - terrific value for money. Hotel Opera is situated just off the Plaza de Isabel II and is only 170 metres from the Opera Metro station. The location is fantastic for exploring the centre of Madrid - which is a very easy city to walk... More

I stayed for 2 nights and would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness and its location. The single room isn't large, but the bed is good size and comfortable. The bathroom is very large. The location is fantastic. You can walk every where very easily and the metro is 1 minute away. For a city break where you aren't going... More

My experiences in Madrid with sensibly prices hotels hasn't been great so far. However Hotel Opera changed that. It is a seriously good value hotel in a great location, minutes from the Metro. Rooms are a good size, bathroom is huge, bed is comfy, wifi is fast, the heating/ac unit works well and quietly, the hot water was hot, it... More

The Hotel was in the best location for sightseeing. Just around the corner from the Opera House and The Royal Palace (Which was Stunning). Everything very central, many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars etc.to choose from. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff very helpful, they were all English speaking. The room and bed were clean and comfortable.... More

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and it was great. When we checked in our room was tiny, although clean and modern. The next morning we asked if we could move to a bigger room and our request was agreed. The room was lovely - very clean and comfortable. We couldn't fault the hotel or the staff. Breakfast... More

Very good location walking distance to palace and station. The room we had was like an attic with one small window in the ceiling. Do not however ask the concierge to organise tickets to football games for you because the company or people they use are dishonest. They sold us 15Euro tickets for 70Euros and hotel told us we were... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
