This hotel's location was truly in the middle of the best Madrid has to offer. Excellent location that is walking distance to the Grand Palace, Parks, Metro, Shopping and tons of dinning options. The staff was very helpful and gave wonderful recommendations. The rooms were nice and comfortable.

If you intend to be out and about in Madrid 2/3 of the time, this is the best hotel for you! It is a hop and a skip from every single landmark in Madrid: Plaza Mayor for dining, Plaza Callao (and Gran Via) for a bit more commercial feel, Puerta del Sol as a major hub; El Corte Ingles, even... This felt like any similar hotel you might find in the US, which could be positive or negative depending on what you are looking for. It was clean and comfortable. The only drawback on the location was that when we were there in December, Los penguinos de la navidad did a loud robotic concert from Corte Ingles starting around 7... More

Stayed in this property overnight and in between flights to Africa. I've stayed in other BWs in Madrid before and decided to check out BW Carlos V. Couple of positives 1) location, location, location!!- It's surrounded by the stores in Plaza Callao and Gran Via. El Corte Ingles (Spain's largest department store) is literally 15 steps away from the lobby.... More

An unpretentious hotel, which has to have the most central of locations of any hotel in Madrid. Our room (508) was located on the top floor at the rear of the hotel, and overlooked the well of the building and neighbouring roofs. The room was of a reasonable size, and unlike a lot of city centre hotels that only have... More

The hotel was in an excellent location in central Madrid within walking distance from all major tourist attractions. Very friendly and helpful staff both at the reception and the cafeteria/breakfast room. Problem with internet in the bedroom but fine in the cafeteria. Breakfast was reasonably good.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
