Location, location, location! This hotel is located right where you want to be in order to walk and shop around downtown Madrid. It has a good buffet breakfast with many choices (fruits, cold meats, eggs, juices, cereals, etc. etc). The bar has happy hour from 5 to 7 pm. The room was not very clean (particularly the carpet). The AC... More

I could not believe that the week before I went to Madrid I was able to get a double room for £77 for two nights total price. The location of this hotel is superb. It is a two minute walk from Puerta del Sol and is located close to lots of shops and very close to the Royal Palace. The... More

Great location near to the Metro station. The hotel is easy to find and a great base to explore the city. As this was our first visit to Madrid we opted to pay extra for a top floor room with a terrace...we would thoroughly recommend this option to everyone. Visiting in the heat of Summer means that city seeing in... More

I probably stayed in the worst room in this hotel. Window in the room was opening to a ventilation gap between the buildings. It was a very clean hotel located in the city center. Breakfast was better than expected.

Very friendly reception, but no service in beautiful, art noveau style lounge. Room was adequate, with ancient air con that could not be adjusted. Cramped bathroom with no sink top but only a few narrow shelves. No soap and worn towels were not 3-star. Considering the price and location, however, it was adequate for our needs. Metro close by.

Stayed 3 nights in July. Very hot ,but after having to get an other room, the aircondition in the room did a good job. Small and not exactly luxurious room, but good enough. Very friendly and service minded staff. Delicious breakfast.

Stayed as part of a BA break. Superb location for visiting Madrid with all the major tourist sites within walking distance. The hotel is in the middle of the shopping area and Corte Ingles is within 100 metres. Plenty of eating places in the surrounding area ranging from cheap tapas to expensive al a carte. Staff were friendly and helpful and... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
