This is not the Ritz, but you can see it from here. Three of us stayed in one of the 2-floor suites for our last days in Spain. These unique rooms are a great value for the price and include 2 full bathrooms (one on each floor), a bedroom upstairs and a sofa-bed downstairs. There is a mini-bar that you... More

I spent the past 3nights in Hotel Villa Real.. i love it so much! Clean rooms and bathrooms. Very good location..5min walking to Puerta del Sol... and 10min to park de retiro. The staff are helpful..they recommended us the best flamingo restaurant in Madrid: Corral de la Moreria, the most famous tablao flamenco in the world.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this beautiful Hotel in the heart of Madrid within walking distance of the City Centre and literally two minutes walk from El Prado Museum and Buen Retiro Park . The first night we arrived we were quite tired and we found a fantastic restaurant just behind the hotel and we walked around... More

We booked Hotel Villa Real for our honeymoon and it turned out to be such a good experience. The hotel location definitely was the main advantage. Walking distance to most main attractions around Madrid. We can just walk to Plaza de Santa Ana, Plaza Mayor, Puerto del Sol, Museo del Prado, Retiro Park, etc. The room and bathroom was a... More

This is a relatively small, beautifully appointed hotel (featuring museum quality Eastern Roman Empire mosaics in lobby and rooms!) with a perfect location. It was a very easy walk to all of the major art galleries and museums and there are dozens of quality restaurants also within blocks. The main train station (Atocha) is just outside easy walking range with... More

A really good location ( 5 mins walk to Plaza Santa Ana and similar to Prado) and excellent value in March, around £80 per superior room room only. Didn't bother with expensive hotel breakfast ( 15 to 23 euros each) but found a lovely patisserie/cafe nearby, pastries and coffees for two a total of 6 Euros. Supermarket nearby too. Room... More

Had prebooked off the internet because of price and location. Queried a balcony at check in and was offered a terrace suite for 50€. Brained it! Huge terrace top floor, huge views, spa, downstairs lounge, list goes on. Bed was amazing. Great bed. No tea, coffee though. Location was good. Half way between Atocha and Sol and close to museums.... More

I read reviews in guidebooks - foders, frommers. The hotel villa real was not mentioned. I selected it because the location was excellent and the trip advisor reviews were also excellent. We had fabulous rooms. The hotel staff was extremely kind and friendly (not something I experienced in my barcelona hotel).

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
