I only got to this location after having to change hotels from Mercure Plaza de España, as they did not have any hardwood floored rooms to place us (my wife is quite allergic to carpets).
The hotel is centrally located, very near the Gran Via and all those pedestrians only streets (Calle Preciados, Calle Carmen, Plaza del Sol).

The Santo Domingo Mercure Madrid is an excellent hotel. Located a few steps from Gran Via and a 200 meters from Callao Station. The room is a little bit small but it's cozy! Great location, 5 minutes walk from the royal palace and opposite the underground. Nice, convenient, recently refurbished room - though hardly spacious. I did not get a great view - the only window faced the inner side. Good value for money overall.

There were positives and negatives for this hotel.
The positives were its location as it was right next door to Santo Domingo subway station. The bathroom was nice as looks recently renovated with a shower only but it was an excellent power shower. The breakfast had a great choice of food and the coffee was from Nespresso coffee machine which...

The location of the hotel, a great breakfast and good service made it easier to deal with the nuisance of really "thin" walls - we could hear our next door neighbors shower and singing in the bathroom.Positives include wi-fi, metro station right outside the hotel, and being walking distance to shopping, sight seeing and restaurants.
