November 2012. we booked this apartment through Habitat. The booking procedure was good. We had stated our arrival time but there was no one here when we did arrive. By chance we tried the cafe next door, and were given the keys, but that was just a lucky thought.....otherwise we would have had to start phoning and trying to find the manager. The apartment is good value, and has heating and a/c, plenty of hot water and a heated towel rail. It's comfortable, modern and very very quiet as it is on the inside of the building overlooking the central well. A view to the street would be nice but that might be more noisy. There's a dishwasher , but with only 2 cups, 2 glasses, 1 teaspoon, and a few plates you might not bother to use it. Some wine glasses would have been welcome, and something other than saucepan to boil water in would have been useful .....but with a small microwave, and a 2 ring Electric hob,and a good fridge, it was very adequate for our needs.. The whole place is very modern ( like Ikea), but will soon need some small repairs and redecoration to maintain a high standard, e.g the roller blinds in the bedroom are broken, water drips through a small hole in the ceiling above the shower at times, the paintwork will soon need to be touched up. The location is great......just a few steps from Gran Via metro station, and an easy walk to Plaza Mayor, Sol etc with many great restaurants, bars etc nearby . there's an excellent supermarket in the basement of nearby Corte Ingles. The Prado , and other art galleries are all within an easy walk. From the airport it would be easy to take the bus to Plaza Cibeles and walk to the apartment.....maybe easier than the train/metro. All considered this apartment is a good choice, especially for location.

We decided to book an apartment through habitatapartments.com for our Madrid trip, having had a good experience in Barcelona. After a 17-hour journey, we expected to get into our apartment quickly to rest. However, after waiting about 25 minutes at the cold foyer, we called the contact numbers on the confirmation email 3 times before anyone picked up the calls. A man said he'd come by in 20 minutes, which he did. He was Agusto, the commercial director. He was an approachable young man but could speak very little English. Thankfully, Agusto was at the apartment when we were inspecting the place. We found a broken handle each on 2 mugs. We handed him the 2 mugs since guests are expected to pay for any damaged items in the apartment. He accepted the mugs without protest. Apartment 2C wasn't maintained well. Each time the aircon/heater in the kitchen was switched on, the entire apartment would go into a blackout. Agusto tried to reset the circuit breaker each time, but the problem persisted. We asked for a portable heater and Agusto provided one. After plugging it in, the heater didn't work. So we asked for another one, which Agusto sent to our door. We accidentally found out why the first heater didn't work — the kitchen socket we plugged the heater into wasn't working. We found this out after trying to charge up our cellphone batteries. In addition, one lighting switch for the kitchen sizzled — the prospect of unintentionally starting a fire in someone else's property was frightening. We were thankful that Agusto was open to letting us move to another apartment (4C) the next day. He also let us check out 2 choices within the price range we booked. We wanted to make sure the facilities and the wifi connection are working. Came Dec 24 and 25, during which we had no access to wifi in apartment 4C. We called and left messages on Agusto's number. We did the same with a telephone number stated on the apartment office door on the ground floor. The number belong to a Pilar. Finally, Agusto told us to contact Pilar. Pilar didn't respond to any of our messages. We had to stand at the chilly stairway and/or corridor just to access the Internet. On our way out, we saw a Lina in the apartment office — she said she worked at the bar next door and was just doing some basic work in place of Agusto and Pilar, whom she said were on vacation. Lina said she would call the Internet company about the problem, but didn't want to commit to updating us on the matter. By then, we weren't surprised about the lackadaisical attitude. The only good thing we can say about the apartment is the location. The building is about 50 metres from the Gran Via metro, and is within a stone's throw from the Callao shopping area.
