Stopped over on our way back from holiday just to break up the trip. Definitely not fancy but the price isn't either. Ok for just a crash. It was difficult to find. The sign is up very high and the doorbell has it listed as Alaska and not Oliver. Luckily someone helped us out that spoke Spanish since we weren't... More

The location is great, just a few meters from the Plaza del Sol. The hostel is simple but the room and the tiny bathrooms were cleaned (also at night) and the mattress is comfortable. Everything is very close (supermarket, restaurants, metro etc.), a little noisy at night because of the bars and discothekes but if you want to stay in... More

There were four of us and the room we had had three beds with one of them big enough to fit two persons. There was a telly, towels were provided and the room appeared clean and tidy. Initially, the wifi was only accessible if you stayed near the reception area and that was what one of the staff said. We... More

The location is great and the room was really clean, but the noise in the hostel is too much. The tiled floors don't help, neither do the 2 bars directly underneath. All in all, if you are really budget concious and a heavy sleeper, this is a good choice. Otherwise, it's worth the extra for a hotel.

I am very disappointed :(, I made a reseravation with free cancellation. Sadly I had to cancel my reservation (1 month before the arrival date!!!). You can imagine my surprise when I realised that they charched me for the cancellation that was supposed to be free: "Free cancellation up until 3 days before check-in". SIX months later, I still DON'T... More

Hidden in a narrow street in the center of Madrid. You have to be very careful to trace it. Clean and warm, nice room. I would like to have a view to the beautiful street, as the a/c was covering the whole balcony door. I would like to have the breakfast included. A little noisy street at night, but still,... More

Location of the hostel was excellent. I cannot complain of the service though English was not available as expected. Rooms were being renovated and clearly many rooms and bathrooms had been recently redone. Airconditioning was good although there was only one remote control shared by many rooms. The same effort that went into maintaining the floors and walls did not,... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
