The hostal is in an excellent location but unfortunately this is the only good thing i can tell about it.The building is old and it is also very noisy. Not because of the traffic or the outside but because of the inside. The door bell would ring any time of the day or night. The reception phone ringing and nobody picking up.You can... We stayed last weekend for the second time in Santa Barbara. The rooms are descent and clean for a good price. The hotel is located in a very cheerfull area, with a great variety of bars and restaurants. All the monuments are within a 15-30 min walk and the metro is literally on the other side of the street. The... More

In August 2013 we stayed here for 3 nights; it was perfect for us. Our room was clean, the staff very cheerful, and it is right across the street from the Metro stop. There are many nearby restaurants and the museums are close enough to walk to. There is a small grocery just a few blocks away that also has... More

Decent hostel - cheap, so I decided I won't complain. The surroundings are nice and it is located very near the centre, which is absolutely fantastic. The staff is friendly and pretty much unintrusive. The beds were okay. The bathroom was tiny and not the best, biggest or cleanest I've seen, but not too bad, either. In other words, for... More

I stayed with a friend for 2 nights, we booked a twin room and got a double bed instead...The lady who seemed to be the receptionist and a cleaner and generally the only member of staff was very nice she didn't however speak the word of English (so I'd Google everything before going there and not hoping to get any... When we read the comments we were in doubt because the hostel was described badly. Whoever wrote the reviews was certainly very strict and had no sense of adaptability. In fact the prices were cheap and the room was little but comfortable and clean. It is family buisiness and the owners are kind and heplfull even if they can only... More

It is located in the part of the city where there is a lot of young people. next to the hotel there is a small grocery shop and pizzeria. At night restaurants throw garbage to the garbage boxes which are located on the street. It makes qute loud noise and please take it into consideration. Because of this reason I... More

We've just come back from a 5 night stay at Hostal Santa Barbara and I feel I had to write this review to offset the negative comments I read about the hostel on Trip Advisor. When we read the negative review, we had already booked and we were so shocked that we were about to cancel our booking. Fortunately in... More

This might seem like a normal hostel but it is not. Location is good but it is basically a place where women of the night do their business. It is extremely noisy with comings and goings (of all kinds) all night. I talked to the owners and they simply did not care. Their appearance on web sites looks quite good... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
