I went there for five nights with two friends from oct. 2nd till oct. 7th. We were very positive with the hostel. Very clean bathrooms, fine bedrooms with fairly comfortable beds. There weren't many other guests at the hostel, so no line for the bathroom :-) And for the small amount per night, it was very cheap. I had a... More

I was traveling by myself and new to Madrid. I arrived very late after a long flight, and metro from the airport. The host could not have been nicer. I found the next day just what a magnificent location it is. It's so close to so many sights. As others have said, it's very clean and all the staff are... More

I am very sorry to say that we are disappointed in the way we have been handled by the hotel. We had made a mistake in the reservation. This resulted in us arriving a week early and finding out we were expected a week later. The host behind the reception received us very kindly and told us that he would... More

Our family (2 children: 11 & 9 years old) had a very nice stay (2, 3, 4 May 2012) in this charming hostal. Very friendly staff (Tito, he speaks english and another guy (Sait?: he speaks spanish). I was ill and sick (fever, hangover), the room was not ready but I was allowed to sleep in an other room. I... More

I agree with the other reviews - this is a nice hostal, very clean, rooms come with LCD TV, great location. I would not take a car there as parking is difficult, there are underground car parks nearby which are quite expensive. This is not somewhere I would go for a romantic weekend, but in terms of sound clean accommodation... More

This hostal is in a great central location. The hostal is clean and the bathrooms are also very clean with well supplied toilet paper and soap (which sometimes in scarce in hostals). The hostal has all private rooms for one or two people and has free wi-fi for use. The reception is 24 hours and there is no curfew. This... More

Huespedes Marisol had very little or no reviews when we booked it, but we decided to try it as it was central, small and looked cozy. We arrived midday, and were greeted by one of the owners. Registration went without a hitch and we were soon settled in. The owner spoke very little English, but we managed to communicate with... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
