All in all it is a good value for money for a budget trip: reasonable cleanliness, free wifi connection, regular change of towels, change of bed linen more than once a week, located in the center. The only thing that disappointed me was a complete lack of soundproofing which may affect you on weekends.

This is a small pension on the 7th floor of a building that appeared to house several other hostals of its kind. I had room 8 and it served my needs perfectly. I was in town for a conference and on a budget. This place was €25 per night. On night was paid a week before arrival and the other... More

It has a great location, really at the center, with two metro stations nearby (Callao and Sol)! You can't ask for better than that! The double room I booked was small, but really tidy and more modern than I expected. It is an excellent quality/price deal. The staff is nice, but as I haven't heard them speak in English I... More

Had a 5 night stay there for our new year's vacations. The room is a bit small, but that was more or less expected. It was clean and warm, and the bathroom was clean and adequate. The bad part was the noise from the Gran Via, which at this time of the year is even louder because of the vacations... More

Hostal had to be reached using smelly, dirty outside elevator. Desk area, however, clean, but laundered sheets and towels hanging in stairwell gave off musty oder. Receptionist didn't speak English. Room clean, but hardly large enough to move around and it had a close, musty smell. I am allergic to mold and mildew so asked how to work the advertised... More

Very well located, the rooms are ok, sometimes the bathroom is a bit smelly and you can hear everything that’s going on, on the other rooms. The staff is not very helpful, the breakfast is really bad, is not worthy, you have several coffees in the area. Is ok to stay for 1 or 2 days. Madrid is a beautiful... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
