We started our european tour here in Madrid. These apartments are very centrally located. We had a bit of a hard time finding it but that was mainly my fault as I should have had a map printed out before I left and not relied on my phone to help me find it. We asked many people in very broken... More

We booked at apartamentos Olmo for three days in March after reading the reviews on this site. When we got our confirmation, we were actually booked in to stay at an apartment that was different from the one shown in the photos but also owned by the same person. The apartment that we stayed in was about two blocks from... More

We stayed (6 persons) in the two bedroom apartment. It was perfect: has everything you might need, very clean and comfortable. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The location is great, also - in the heart of the old city and easy to get by walking to Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Prado Museum and the metro station was... More

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment. It was perfect for us (family with two young children). The apartment has everything you might need - the kitchen is fully equipped (even has a dishwasher); nice clean bathroom; space to hang clothes; washing machine with drying line outside. Also, all around the area are grocers, fruit and veg stores, a bakery,... More

The apartment is very clean and well equipped but small; it was adequate for 2 people but would have been a very tight fit for 4. The owner lives upstairs and is friendly and helpful. The location is superb - in the heart of the old city, in a safe, quiet residential street, with bars, restaurants, food stores and a... More

Staying in Lavapies

Neighborhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighborhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighborhood.
