This hostel is everything you need. It has a great location, most places are within walking distance and there are plenty of eating/going out options nearby. I was upgraded to a room with private bathroom which is always welcome. As a long term backpacker the price represented very good value for money. Staff were friendly and the rooms were very... Great location, right near the Gran Vila and the metro. A nice area to walk around an explore the streets of Madrid. Within walking distance to the Plaza Mayor. We had some difficulty finding the hostel (look up at the windows to see the sign!) Very clean and the rooms were comfortable. Would stay at San Martin again!

Gustavo, the innkeeper was very helpful and resourceful. My room was comfortable, clean, and relaxing to come home after being out all day in magical Madrid. This hostel is conveniently located within walking distance of everything. You can't beat the price and the quality for the price paid. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here for a few days and it was a great stay. Really amazing location and they gave me a bigger room that was comfortable and spacious. Overall, will definitely come back because the price was also very good. The staff was super friendly and I will recommend this place to others if they visit wonderful Madrid!

This is a great hostel based right in the city center. It's a 50m walk to Callao station or a 5 min walk to Sol the central station. Man who looked after it while we were here spoke no English but laughed and waved and tried his best and was friendly about it. Room was nice and spacious with shower... More

Really central - couldn't ask for a better location for this price. On check in the receptionist guy was a little brisky and rude but he seemed friendly for the rest of the stay so he was maybe just having a bad day! The place was always clean, even the shared bathrooms. The ensuite shower was TINY but sufficient for... More

This hostal (which is not a hostel, it's a guesthouse - so no common areas and all private rooms) is in a great location off Gran Via. So easy to get to. Signs v.small, but it's opposite a vegetarian buffet place and next to a closed irish bar. The lady staff member we met was SO FRIENDLY. Just a wonderful... More

For a group of 3 student travellers this place was perfect. The staff were friendly and made sure that we knew we could ask for anything 24/7. We stayed in a triple room and were surprised to find a large mini fridge (which we used for groceries to save $ on eating out), and a shower and sink. The bathroom... More

I stayed at this hostal for the 2nd time this year. It's not too difficult to find another hostal within similar price range in Madrid city center; however I return to stay at this hostal because of the cleanliness of the place & the friendly staff. I have stayed in the double-room and triple-room before. They were clean, well-ventilated and... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
