Great hostal, which I would gladly recommend. The staff is great, the rooms are extremely clean and the location is fantastic, steps away from gran via metro stop. I booked a single with a shared bathroom for a couple of nights and the experience could not have been better. Rooms are very modern and comfortable and you step outside and... More

We tend to book contemporary business style hotels further out for budget reasons. As we were only in Madrid for 2 nights we paid a little more and stayed right in the centre, and I'm glad we did as we enjoyed a great first morning browsing shops, then brunch and a few early beers all before we'd even checked in.... Exceptional staff, very helpful. Extremely clean and convenient location. Value for Money. The staff should be head hunted by a 5 star hotel as their customer service skills are exemplary. The extra lift will make a big difference. Great things come in small boxes.

Location: great accessible place, short 6mins uphill walk when we arrived at Sol station, if you are taking the metro, the gran via exit is directly outside the hostel building. Despite the street girls, we felt really safe. It's a 15mins walk to the palace, also 15 to 20 mins walk to Prado museum. Allow 20-25 mins walk if you... More

This hotel (it's more of a hotel than a hostel) is in a fantastic location. It is located behind McDonalds. The hotel is right in the heart of Madrid so everything is accessible (Palacio Royal, Buen Retro etc) and if you don't want to walk then you are right next to the metro & near all the big shops. It... More

Loved our stay here. Who ever hired Anna Marie as a receptionist did a great job. We checked in on her first day of work and she was wonderful. Very pleasant and very helpful. Always a smile. The hotel is in the middle of the action and we loved the location. Rooms are very clean and comfortable.

I loved this place. It was clean and rooms were quite spacious for what I was expecting. The location is fantastic. Yes, there are prostitutes on the street, but there are so many people out, that they blend in. It's not a creepy street at all, and it is right in the middle of the action and hustle and bustle... Although the name says "hostel" this place is more like a hotel. The rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable. The decor was pretty nice for a "hostel". The location is amazing! We were able to walk to all the attractions. There's one subway right in front and another about a block down. We only used the subway to... More

We go to Madrid several times a year to visit family. And we are so happy to have found this pearl in the center of everything. The rooms are very, very clean, the staff is exceptional friendly and helpful, the location is great and to top it off, it is affordable. :-). Some of the rooms give some noise from... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
