We usually don't write reviews, however, regularly use Trip Advisor when selecting a hotel. The reason for writing this review is to note the assistance of the gentleman at reception who assisted us with making a reservation at a restaurant and assisted us to locate our lost luggage from Iberian Airlines. He was most courteous and helpful. This hotel is... More

Location great, check in chilly until they found my reservation, perhaps older women do not travel alone, then put me in what was once an attic as you had to all but crawl from bed to bathroom to keep from hitting head on celing. Bathroom flooded when the shower was on, they moved me to another room the next afternoon..... More

I really want to like this hotel, but there are niggles albeit small ones. Travelled here on business for two nights sharing twin room with colleague. Check in was frosty, and receptionist seemed surprised that two male colleagues would share a room, obviously obvilious to the current financial climate. Had to insist on twin as online booking system did not... More

The outside of the hotel was not much to speak of. We were very skeptical on arrival. The entry and what little there was of a lobby was new although not impressive. The employees were nice and polite. They always had a nice bowl of fruit on the counter which was a good snack. As we entered the elevator and... More

We stayed at the Petit Palace Plaza Major from 22/10/10 to 24/10/10 and were not dissaponted. The hotel entrance is hard to find (opposite the Plaza Major and opposite the San Miguel Market (which incidentially is a fantastic market selling all sorts of food and is covered). The hotel is certainly high tech and has been modernised recently, there is... More

This hotel is in a great location, but the room is dirty and hot...The air-con does not work. I asked the reception why it is so hot which she suggested to open the windows..which is so noisy and dirty. The worst is the design of the bathroom where the floor will get flooded after taking a bath or shower.... Will... More

Top Location This hotel is located one hundred meters from Plaza Mayor and 300-400 from Sol. It is on the road Calle Mayor (maybe the most important road of Madrid) and 20m opposite the San Miguel. Very good breakfast, great rooms with personal laptop (including free internet). The only problem are their carpets, witch they need replacement.

So first off, we came to Madrid after a stay in Barcelona and neither of the hotels offered conditioner! The hotel is decorated very nicely and we had a very fast check in unlike some other hotels. The hotel is a little hidden as it is narrow and our taxi driver almost passed it and called it the hidden hotel.... More

Excellent location (but no views to speak off), satisfactory rooms although quite small for a new hotel, with a modernist theme. The free breakfast, high speed wireless and laptop were a nice touch. The staff spoke English which was a relief because not many people do, despite the heavy tourist presence. On the average side were the small things such... More

The reviews on TripAdvisor made me book this hotel and it was a decision well made. The best part was the front-desk staff who advised us on best places to see, eat and hangout.... and all the advice we asked them for. We reached Madrid early morning by the overnight Trenhotel from Lisbon and the hotel staff were quite helpful... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
