We have just had the pleasure of staying in this hotel for 4 nights and not only was the location perfect but we cannot complain about anything during our stay. We had a room overlooking, Calle Mayor and the entrance to Plaza Mayor, it was quiet, the room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful. All in... More

Before booking, we had asked friends for recommendations. But at the end of the day, I went with my gut feeling and I'm glad I did. The facade of the hotel looks like a block of Cadbury chocolates and the reception area small, but the rooms are ok - clean sheets, comfortable beds, nice bathroom and the best shower head... More

Right in the heart of the Mayor Palace, on the Hop On/Hop Off Bus Stop and shopping. Laundromat just down the street - very convenient. Hotel clean and breakfast tasty. Close to the palace and the cathedral.

If we return to Madrid we will return to this hotel. A simple, modern, comfortable room and a good bathroom with excellent spacious shower. As others have commented, almost everything you could wish to see on a visit to central Madrid is within walking distance of this hotel. The main square (Plaza Mayor) 1 minute away, the Prado and the... More

It is very well located in order to see the top 5 things in the city. The main market and the main square are near by. The palace and the opera is five minutes walk... So it is convenient in this way. The decoration is cosy and it has nice bathrooms. I would like some extras like a bigger and... More

This hotel has a great location right by the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. The reception area is very small and it is missing many amenities which one would expect at a four star hotel. It is priced well for what you get (location, convenience and modernity), but certainly in my opinion they get your expectations too high. The elevators are... More

It's just a hotel. You sleep there. You eat breakfast there. The location is the best thing about it. A stones throw from the San Miguel market where you can pick at food and drink to your hearts content in vibrant atmosphere. The old town is next door with a myriad of bars and restaurants (see my other reviews locally).... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
