Upon arrival to hostal oxum the entrance makes you fear the worst. Up the rickety wooden staircase and through the door a modern and nicely decorated hostal awaits. Initially the wait to be checked in was off putting and the faulty air conditioning made the room rather warm but the attentive and friendly service by the two staff despite not... More

Booked this, saw more bad reviews so booked a back up just in case! Lucky we did! Is dark and dingy on arrival, They didn't have enough space for the 5 of us booked, and rooms so small and crammed we could compromise! The rooms looked better than I had anticipated from reading reviews online, but hall way and entrance... More

Can't beat the price/quality ratio. I usually stay at 4* hotels for work travel. I neglected to do any planning and needed a place before heading to Barcelona. Arrival was daunting: sad facade, no elevator (lugged 2 suitcases up 3 flights of stairs) and was told that the room was being vacated at noon, so I might get in around... More

Terrible unsafe place. Not at all like the pictures. The street is unsafe specially at night. Not at all a place for families. By the end it was very expensive considering the bad that it was. They let you know that they do not have an elevator, but they do not explained how dirty and unsafe are the stairs, full... More

Stayed in 6 person room, 1 nice king in picture, mostly bunk beds, nearly zero space. They had only 1 traditional key for the room, employees couldn't find more keys. Weak wifi, later found out they had a 2nd completely different signal. More like a hostel, not hotel. Located in area promoting adult entertainment supplies. Okay for college students and... More

The images seen on the net does not correspond to the actual state Hostal Oshun. Only had access to the building, after much insistence to ring the doorbell and no one opens the door I went to the police to be able to see real degraded aspect, would claim the book reclamaçãoes nobody was only people staying and knew not... First of all it doesn't have an elevator. So good luck trying to go up 4 flights of stairs with your luggage. The room was noisy as you can hear all the traffic from the street. It was very difficult to sleep since things don't shut down til 2am right below. The lady wasn't helpful at all when asked for... More

You kind of get what you pay for... Good things: • The location is very good, you can walk to many interesting spots, good restaurants etc. You also have the metro just around the corner. • The room was quite big, the staff nice and helpfull. Bad things: • They do not speak english at all, but if you're willing... More

When I entered the hall way I began worrying about the choice I made. The hall way leading to the Hostel was unattractive and you have to go up three flights of old stairs. However once I went inside I was pleasantly surprised. The room though a bit small was like what I saw in the pictures. I got a... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
