We loved the Hostal Ballesta. First time in a hostal and the experience was all positive. We had a room on the top floor with a small balcony facing the street and had no problems with noise overall. Yes, the neighbourhood is a bit sketchy but don't let that turn you off staying here. It is close to everything! We... More

Excellent staff, very nice and helpful. Comfortable bed and rooms. International channels on the TV. Sometimes there were some noises in the morning, probably the cleaners tidying up the rooms?!; it seemed that they were dragging furniture or something which was pretty annoying. Otherwise, everything was great! Great value for the money. Would stay in this hotel again.

We had two nights here and while there is a few things they could improve upon given the price and location hotel ballesta is quite a good proposition. Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient with an easy check in process. The rooms are quite spacious for a budget hotel and while basic it was clean and sufficient for our needs.... More

Visited as a group of 5 girls, and we all loved it! The rooms were clean, good sizes, well air conditioned and had everything we needed. Each room had its own balcony overlooking the street which was lovely to sit out on in the evenings. The staff were very helpful despite our very minimal Spanish, and we felt safe and... More

There is nothing special to say about the rooms and the beds are super hard. We had a room right off the main staircase and we could hear everything, even the phone ringing at reception. The doors slam as well and everything just seems to echo in this place, so needless to say I was woken up many times. The... More

This is not hostal but it is a hotel. In Madrid, hostal is inside a building and that building is shared with other hostals and residentials. Hostal could be in a high floor and if it s only one elevator and it doesnt work, then good luck for you to go up with your luggage. Hotel Ballesta is in one... More

A basic hotel, modern, clean, good wifi and very well located close to the centra of madrid. Despite being so close to the centre it's off a side street and so surprisingly quiet for its location. Hotel itself has tiled floors so noise travels from other parts of the building (ie. Take earplugs for a good nights sleep). Otherwise I... More

The staff is really friendly and the Hotel is located right in the middle of the Gran Via but yet in a quiet street. I´ve asked them kindly to provide me with a quiet room and so they did. The room was quiet and clean, everything I needed. Wel, the cleaning staff gets started really early and once it´s a... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
