Been there on February 2013 with my sister for 3 nights. The city was cold but the spacious and lovely room wasn't. The bathroom was huge! Breakfasts were always a treat :) location is fantastic, the stuff very were helpful. The only minus is that we arrived early in the morning (7am) straight from buenos aires, a long- long flight.... Helpful personnel, comfortable bed and great location. Ask for ground floor room at back for quiet. Close to major attractions. This hostal is a very good budget choice and is quite safe: it's just behind the Congreso de los Diputados where police are stationed 24/7.

First of all the location... It could hardly be better. This place is just behind the Congreso de los Diputados (equivalent to the (UK) House of Commons) with armed police stationed 24/7 right across the road, so the potential for street violence is zero. Moreover, it is (easy) walking distance from the three major art galleries, from the Puerta Del... More

Clean, basic, good value, safe location opposite police station, central for all attractions, ask for room on ground floor at back, very quiet, bar next door for breakfast. No English spoken but not a problem. Beds rather lumpy!

We stayed here for just one night in November. Though the street itself lacks a bit in character, it is very close to all the major sights, esp. the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums. We had a somewhat nondescript but comfortable and spacious room, and a bathroom with tub. And most of all: we enjoyed total silence, a rare commodity in... More

Friendly staff, good shower, excellent WiFi and in a very good position with regard to Thyssen,Prado and shops. Our room at the front was noisy although on a quiet street and the room was basic and a little depressing. We were up two flights of steep stairs with no lift. Taking all this into account it was good basic accommodation at a... More

Booked Hostal Olga through Clickbed.com. Stayed here for 4 nights in June 2010. Staff were friendly but they don't speak English. The room was clean and all the facilities in the bathroom were fully functional. They had WIFI too. Its about 10-15 mins radius of walking distance to all the tourist attractions in Madrid like Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol,... More

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighborhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
