The hotel is nice, but can be easily confused with another hostel in the same building (Hostal San Lorenzo). In fact, even the other hostel looked at my reservation, didn't find me in their system and still rented a room to us, matching Hostal Union's price! After we figured out we were in the wrong hotel, we found Hostal Union's... More

I was in Madrid more then 10 times but this was my first experience staying at a hostel. Initially I was looking for smth between Plaza de Espana and Plaza de Cibeles. Hostal Union has a super good location when you can reach everything by foot in short time. There're a lot of restaurants nearby, small supermarkets. Rooms are very... More

I'd have loved this place if it was a tad cheaper. I paid €30 each of two nights I was there and it was ok, good bathroom, decent size, clean place, good service, good location. I'd say a good price would be 25, 20 if you're staying more nights.

This hostal in Madrid was in an absolutely fantastic location just 2 blocks off Gran Via and 4 blocks from Plaza de Cibeles. The rooms are on the 4th floor and there is a small elevator. The reception by Juan and Mercedes is very welcoming and helpful. The room we had was big enough and it overlooked the Plaza de... More

We were in a double room: the bed was very small (less than one and a half single bed) and very short (I am 1,80 tall and couldn't fit in). air conditioning not working propertly. But the worst was the staff. I saw the internet site of the hotel, booked my room, got a confirmation, but at the end of... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
