Very old edifice, fantastic environment consistent with area. Rooms could be a little more updated, but overall clean, quiet, well maintained. Staff seemed very offended with (what I thought) were small requests. Attendant at desk during the day never smiled once (for a whole week). Restaurant host actually refused to let us eat pastries from a local shop in the... more

This is a Parador-style convent-conversion hotel in the centre of Haro in the heart of La Rioja. Best things were eating a really excellent breakfast in the beautiful covered cloister, and a comfortable big bed in a blissfully quiet room (internal patio, so a bit dark). Worst things were a rather cold reception on arrival (course in personal service needed)... more

I'd certainly recommend this place to anyone who either: (a) gets a sense of pleasure from staying in a wonderful old building. (b) is, say, driving south from the ferryports of Bilbao or Santander and needs a stop-off. And if both apply then this should be your destination. more

The hotel has wow factor as you enter - it is an attractive former convent on three floors around a covered central courtyard, located in the centre of the village. Parking is available on street. We had a large room at the front of the hotel but the double glazing meant there was no noise. Bathroom was good but the... more

We have stayed now 5 times at this hotel and we really love it - believe us we have high standards! The hotel has a luxury feel to it with red carpets in the room and really nice bathrooms with a power shower. The check in is quick, the staff are not overly friendly but efficient. We got them to... more

The building is very impressive and feels full of atmosphere apart from some of the the naff modern styling in the courtyard. The rooms have a lovely traditional feel with solid walls, wooden beams and quality linen. The reception staff were fine but I can see how they could get frazzled as it feels like a small town operation serving... more

The other reviewers who complained about the less than hospitable front desk service are generally correct. It appears that this chain formerly called the Aranzazu Hotels has been bought out by the Occidental group. Perhaps that is why the staff is ornery. Besides an icy cold female front desk clerk and a prfessional but not warm male desk clerk, the... more

Have stayed in Los Agustinos for a night on our tour of Pais Vasco, Navarra, La Rioja. The hotel is fantastic and everything would be more than perfect if not... To be honest we both with my boyfriend loved the place, to stay sat down in the patio by night and listen classical music. Unforgetable atmosphere! But the staff of... more

My husband and I stayed at Los Agustinos for one night and we really enjoyed this small town in the La Rioja region of Spain. The hotel was very clean and nice. The staff at the hotel was not very helpful and I'm afraid that the language barrier proved to be a bit of a problem (as they did not... more

A three night stay in October 2006 in this generally clean and comfortable hotel revealed some significant disadvantages. Levels of personal service were only borderline "acceptable". For a hotel of supposedly four-star standard one expects a far more engaging response to its clientele than we found. Simple requests, though eventually fulfilled by generally unsmiling staff, were always 'a problem'. The... more
