This was planned as a no fuss Xmas break and we arrived 19th December for 8 nights. It is like going back in time to the Poirot era, colonial background but a modern working hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and could participate in our choice of events without any pressure. This hotel was built around 1930 and must... More

Christmas Eve 2010 was spent in another time zone. Gibraltar itself is a fascinating place, unlike anywhere else we have ever been, but the Rock Hotel is even more amazing. We had intended staying for Christmas Lunch but changed our mind after a meal at the bar. The Clientele aremainly English and obviously looking for little bit of the home... More

Rooms pleasant /good views of the bay & docks - but overall impression is of a poorly maintained hotel. 1st room - fridge not working. In 2nd room (we changed) hairdryer not working / loo brush broken - not replaced. Emergency Lighting not working in corridor - Stale fruit salad at breakfast buffet. Some staff very good...but breakfast things cleared... More

Admittedly a very quiet period pre Christmas, but the reception staff just about stopped their conversation to check us in, but did not bother to advise us when the room was ready, we had to ask. Bathroom sink , room 419, was cracked, tiling was coming adrift in the shower and the toilet seat needs replacing. Rooms facing the sea,... More

This hotel is the closest you'll come to Fawlty Towers - worth staying here for the comedy aspect!! Set in a time warp and with lots of odd rules - you are not allowed to watch the TV in lounge until 12 o'clock! Couldn't print off a document for us and a general 'can't do' attitude Rooms are ok and... More

Had a great holiday and recommend this hotel to anyone who does not mind to step back in time (30 years). Yes the hotel is out-dated but the great service we received while staying there for 3 nights made up for it. Our room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel staff at the reception desk,... More

We stayed here for 3 night at the end of November - miserable rainy weather but that's not the hotel'r fault! Room was OK - nice big bed, but room a bit on the small side - could have done wirh an arnchair and chest of drawers. Lovey balcony which we were able to look out onto the rain stopped... More

Great value as we booked a 4 night out of season package. The hotel has a slightly faded Colonial feeling about it, charming in one way and a bit like feeling in a time warp in another. Overall its hard to find fault. We didnt eat in the restaurant so can't comment, but the bar snacks were good. Whatever you... More

The Rock Hotel Gibraltar. November 2010. what a fantastic stay. ok the rooms are basic but they are clean well serviced and with fantastic sea views . The service is very good and the food in the restaurant well worth a try (i thought it was too good for the price £17 for two good courses) This hotel is 80... More

The biggest problem with travel is usually managing expectations. If you’re expecting 1 star and it’s a 3 bonus! If you’re expecting 5 star and its 3, not so good, and neither is the Rock Hotel. All their various marketing mediums will have you believe this is one step down from the Ritz Carlton where it’s more one step up... More
