Lovely hotel. In the middle of a refurbishment, but we had one of the new rooms which was lovely. Pool is very nice and not to cold like most abroad!! All staff where very polite and helpful. Cannot wait to go back next year and see the completed refurb.

Not sure if all rooms are now completed but mine on the 4th floor was. Really nice old vs new feel in the rooms and looks like they are still finishing but great improvement. Wonder if the 5 star yacht hotel moored down the road forced the change? First time ever I've used the pool as it's across the road... More

Just returned from The Rock. My wife and I last stayed here about two years ago. The refurbishment is now well underway and it has made a tremendous difference to the feel of the 'old gal'. The check in was most efficient, hardly any wait, we stayed on the 4th floor in a refurbished room and it has been done... More

Recently stayed at The Rock (July 2014) with my daughter and was very pleased with the hotel. The refurbished room was very roomy and comfortable with a good-sized balcony. The aircon worked well and everything was clean and well kept. The staff were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. We had a meal in the hotel which was by... More

I've just returned from Gibraltar and stayed at the Rock. We stay here about twice a year and are happy to see the refurb taking shape. It was much needed and long overdue. We stayed on the 3rd floor. It appears they are no longer selling the old rooms. The new rooms have new tilted windows (to keep the apes... More

I recently had the opportunity to stay at The Rock Hotel, whilst on business in Gibraltar. I found the hotel to be very comfortable, the facilities to be first rate, especially the pool and the staff to be welcoming, helpful and friendly. The views on the seaward side of the hotel are outstanding. I only managed to eat breakfast at... More

Having never visited Gibraltar before, my primary requirement based on my budget was for a decent hotel, basic single room with en-suite facilities not necessarily with a balcony but most essential, a decent sized swimming pool with on-site changing, toilet and refreshment facilities. The intention of my 5 day stay was to relax around the pool from pool opening time... More

We love the Rock. We have been going there since 1999. We didn't like night 1 in an old room but because the aircon didn't work. Next day we were moved to a new room on the 4th floor which was almost finished but lacked a phone and internet access. ALL THAT SAID - WE STILL LOVE THE ROCK!! We... More

The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar, which I stayed in yesterday (on the third floor), is in the last stage of an extensive and major renovation. The room was modern spacious and well appointed but did not have a balcony. The separate bathroom has no bath but the shower was first class. All the usually in-room equipment was modern and there... This was our first visit to Gib and aimed for somewhere with a "colonial" feel. We normally stay in self catering villas so are not used to hotel etiquette. We were also concerned over the mention of refurbishments. Our arrival was "cool", not much information, and standing in the reception with our suitcases drinking a sherry felt odd. We had... More

Dear Glamour F, Many thanks for your review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and I appreciate your comments regarding the new room. All the points you mentioned have been sorted or are in the process of being rectified. Free and fast Wifi is contemplated in the refurbishment and is available in guestrooms and public areas. It seems... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built on Gibraltar's western flank with stunning views across the bay, it has been welcoming guests since 1932. As the colony’s premier hotel the guest book is littered with famous names as diverse as Sir Winston Churchill and the Two Ronnies! Tastefully renovated, it has the character of a bygone era with the facilities of a modern 'Grand Hotel'. Traditional afternoon tea is served in the lounge and the hotel’s Rib Room Restaurant is recognised as one of the finest places to dine in Gibraltar. The atmospheric Barbary Bar and adjoining wisteria covered terrace are wonderful places to be on a summer’s evening, both are delightful meeting places, the latter a popular venue for weddings. The hotel’s pool area and gardens have an air of tranquillity, yet the centre of town is only a 10-minute downhill walk. ... more   less
