Hotel is located opposite a bus stop served by two bus routes. If you have mobility problems, it is worth considering taxis as there is a small hill to walk up to get to the hotel. Entrance looked very clean and tidy. Once inside hotel, there is tourist information (not much available for Gibraltar), free newspapers and settees to rest... More

After reading several reviews we were a little apprehensive but after arriving at the hotel we were met by lovely smiling receptionist who was very helpfull. Although the room was in need of a few touches it was spotlessly clean and perfectly adequate. You just need to be vigilant if you want your patio doors open as the apes will... More

Dear Wendy-m-32, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your score. Your descriptive heading is a fair one and of course the 'tired' issue is one that is being addressed this year. I was so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and sincerely hope that you will come back and see us again. Thank you... More

Holiday started off to shaky start after being diverted to Malaga because of Fog and none working radar at Gibraltar. Don't know if this is a regular problem or we were just unlucky. Blands were supposed to pick us up but never did so had to get a taxi to hotel. The check in was quick and painless, we had... More

Dear Skellys, Thank you for your kind words. You may be interested to know that at the end of our impending refurbishment all of our bedrooms will feature walk in shower rooms, which, along with a number of other modern refiinements will give them the 'fab' aspect to which you refer. Your comments regarding our restaurant and service were most... More

The plane having been diverted to Malaga, we were quite late arriving, so I chose to eat in the Barbary Bar, or rather on its terrace. I got a drink and ordered my meal, which took a good half-an-hour to arrive, by which time I'd finished my drink, but the waiter just put my meal down and left, ignoring the... More

Dear Mikep23, Thank you for your review. The negatives, the performance of the bar staff on duty in particular, will be discussed at length with those who were on duty. Regarding the replenishment of the lollipops and filter coffee I can assure you that these are essentially a part of the daily room rate and ergo should be replenished on... More

Dear Karon l, Thank you for your review and of course for taking me on trust when I responded to your e-mail of concern. We have your booking for June and what better compliment than the fact that you are returning so soon. Thank you once more. More

I stayed at this Hotel before Christmas and refrained from commenting as I thought it was unfair due to its planned refurb. However, returning to it this month I found little evidence of any improvements. Many areas are quite grubby and in desperate need of redecoration though the room was clean and perfectly comfortable. Maybe I missed what has been... More

Deat Teabag, Thank you for your review. I am afraid that the mult--million pound refurbishment we have in mind would not have yielded any significant improvement since your last relatively recent visit. As you can imagine, with such an investment there are many planning and bureaucratic hurdles to cross before we physically commence. However, I can report that as I... More

Faded glory, mention the Rock Hotel and everyone thinks you’re staying in a Grand Hotel but the reality is this hotel is in need of a complete overhaul; everywhere is looking a bit shabby. Bedrooms perfectly clean but have not been decorated for about 20 years, single glazed windows when this hotel overlooks a busy road. Waited too long to... More

Dear JoannLichfield, Thank you for your critique. Your points regarding 'faded glory' are well made and as you can read elsewhere this is shortly to be addressed in some considerable fashion. There is no excuse for your missing fridge! This was a maintenance/housekeeping communication failure and should never have happened. You do not say if you reported this but I... More

Have visited many times before - we are welcomed back like old friends! Whenever there has been a problem we have spoken to staff who try to resolve the difficulty or have shown a gesture of goodwill (eg fridge not working in room was exchanged for a different one). Quality of food is excellent especially breakfast and dinners/Sunday lunch in... More

Dear Annabel T, It has been some time now since we had the small decanters in the rooms, although of course we continue to offer sherry on arrival. I can also report that we still have daily newspapers, along with a number of current glossy magazines, in the lounge. We have traditionally closed our pool on 5th October each year,... More

Recently stayed at the 'Rock', and while seriously concerend with what we wuold find in view of other Trip Advisor Comments, we were pleasantly pleased with what we found. Communal rooms (lounge, dining, bar and terrace), still held their granduer, although a spot of paint would be good here and there. Twin-bed on 4th floor - excellent views of the... More

Dear David_Tracey, Thank for your sound, honest and sensible review, which I think perfectly captures what the Rock is currently about. The refurbishment will address much of the negativity that the age of the hotel generates and this, added to the feel and charm of the hotel, will make us formidable once again I am sure. Thank you once more. More

Was lucky, got a room with excellent view - 2 windows/balcony aspect. Big room. A bit dated but would have been grander in the earlier days. Buffet breakfast was good. Slight walk uphill away from Main street, about 15 mins walk. More
