Have just returned from a tour around Northern Spain and want to say how much we enjoyed staying at this hotel. The hotel is just the right mix of the old and the new, the superior room we booked delivered in every way advertised and was extremely comfortable. Great location, don't be put off by some of the reviews which... more

We travelled to santiago in May 2008 for 4 nights, it was our first visit and decided to go for a little luxury hence choosing the Palacio Del Carmen. We arrived at the hotel quite late in the evening and were greeted by a welcoming receptionist who cheked us in promptly and showed us to the room, which we though... more

We stayed for just two nights at this lovely hotel. From the airport or train station I would recommend a taxi as it is a little difficult to find at the outset but is in fact within 5 minutes easy walking distance to the cathedral. Rooms were first class with lots of extra touches. There is a complementary in-door pool... more

We booked this hotel for 4 nights for my 50th Birthday as we really enjoy interesting historic architecture and thought a converted Convent sounded just the ticket. Our first problem was that the street department had changed the traffic flow of Oblates street, where the hotel is located, to one-way. And, of course, the Tourism department hasn't caught up and... more

We drove to Santiago from Portugal and following the signs, the hotel was easy to find. There was free parking in front of the hotel. Though modern, the place is not offensive or overdone and has many nice touches, including inlets for natural light, free mini-bar in the rooms, and an altogether stylish, almost minimalist, ambience. The walk to the... more

We stayed in this hotel for two nights in May. The weather was miserable, the city felt gloomy. It was so nice to get back to the hotel. Its closer to the Cathedral than some reviews imply. Perhaps if you're older or less mobile the steps up to the Cathedral might be an issue, but I barely remember them! Wouldn't... more

The hotel is undoubtedly lovely and they have done a good job on the conversion. However there isn't a bar which is always a down side as there are no local places. In addition, when we were there the pool was shut which was the only reason we booked it. The worst thing about the place is that it is... more

So modernised, it's hard to see what the original convent might have looked like. The modernisation has resulted in some hideous architecture - a hallway that looks like a bleak conference centre. And the pool! You can live with it being small but not with the ugliness, a tomb. We felt like the lobsters in the murky tanks in the... more

This hotel has a lovely feel about it. We stayed four nights and had single occupancy of twin rooms. Reception are helpful and welcoming; the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Our rooms backed onto a patio / rock garden. There is a complimentary minibar in each room and there is coffee available from 11am until 5pm in a lovely lounge,... more

Surprised by the previous reviews. Thought this was an excellent hotel, very comfortable, beautifully designed, and with great staff. Loads of nice touches (eg free minibar). Fitness facilities small but fine for most people. One or two slight downsides - breakfast pricey, odd location on edge of town, and no English TV. But on the whole an excellent hotel in... more
