The Hotel Ciutat de Girona is a modern, fashionable establishment.
We booked on the strength of reviews here. The hotel's clean, tidy enough and mercifully air-conditioned, but it's hard to find anything remarkable to say about it: nothing you wouldn't find in a hundred other European hotels and apparently nothing for which you'd gladly give 5 stars.
However the hotel does occupy a terrific location a few metres from the River Ter, over which it's possible to cross by way of a happily creaky bridge into the old town within a couple of minutes.
This same bridge (the Pont de les Peixeteries Velles - see the photos) offers visitors that definitive view of Girona with the banks lined by beautifully coloured apartment fascias. It's a scene rather reminiscent of the Florentine Arno at first viewing: it promises much. Thereafter every corner and alleyway of the old town beyond serves up some quirk or noteworthy vista - Girona is outstanding and as yet unscathed...
