for €35 a night I got a single room with little else. No shampoo, door opening onto the inner courtyard people walk through (and make noise in) at night, varying staff quality from v helpful young guy to major grump from older scruffy guy who thought it was a bit much I wanted to get into the place at 3pm... I visited Barcelona on my own last week. The location of the pension was very great. I only looked once at my map and walked straight there. From the airport I took an aerobus to the Placa de Catalunya and than walked the Rambla to the pension which is a 15 minute walk or something. There are buses like every... More

I stayed at this hotel in June 14. Hotel was in good location next to the 'la rumbla'. Also hop on hop off stop very close. Eateries are downstairs so no need to be concerned with breakfast or lunch. For the price and location, I would stay there again.

For the price I paid for a two night stay this pension was excellent value for money. I had a single room with private bathroom, both of which I found to be very clean. The room was basic and small yet the only real criticism I have is that my room was right next to reception, which was quite uncomfortable... More

I read a lot of good reviews about this pension, but I had really bad experience there. I booked room online for single person with shared bathroom for 3 nights and I paid 90 euros (it was in April), looks quite good, yes? I had 211 room(this is single green room in photos) with shared bathroom, it's ok, because I... More

I had a triple room with my parents, it had a private bathroom, no shampoo but clean. the location was excellent, close to the part, 1 minute walk to La Rambla, there is a supermarket right in front to buy water, fruits and other necessary things. lots of bars and restaurants nearby and 2 minute walk to metro station. The... More

Spent two nights at Pension Portugal from 1st to 2nd July 2013. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the room and shared bathroom, the supply of towels was also very helpful. The location was very convenient to La Rambla and connecting with the Barcelona Metro system. Nights were quiet so a restful nights sleep can be insured. Payment... More

It would be easy to pick holes but in reality a great place to sleep for €25 a night for two people ,could not get more central. The room smelt due to the window leading to an covered stinky atrium/courtyard but as soon as we shut the window and shutters it was ok.The bed filled the room and some covers were... Well, I haven't expected anything superb. I just came for 2 nights to visit friends and just needed a place to sleep. I spent all the time in the city, so I didn't need anything more than just a bed and shower. It was provided. The place is located in a very good location and it was moderately clean. Good... More

I was looking for a cheap place to sleep in the center of Barcelona. Pernsion Barcelona is centrally located, just off La Rambla and less then 5 minutes away from the harbor. The pension is on the third floor in a slightly rundown house. Ring the bill in order to get in. There was a big hole on the first... More

Staying in Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic)

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighborhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.
